ok im going to upgrade to one of these bases i haevnt played ether of them yet because i cant find any shops with them id like some feed back on them withch do you like more i play a lot of metal and the tuneing i use is CGCF so yeah help me pick one im going to geta 4 string as well
so help me ot

I own the Darklord and love it, it is a very unique and useful bass. Since you are playing metal with an ultra-low tuning already the Darklord sounds like it could be a good fit for you. Since you are already in a very low tuning don't forget to consider a cab that can actually produce that low of a frequency especially in a loud band situation. This will get the most out of an instrument like the Darklord as it will allow you to hear the fundamental note as well as feel it. As an aside, Basson makes cabs for this very thing at very affordable prices that are also quite popular with a lot of metal bass players. Good luck and let us know what you eventually decide. :)
 
Opinions please???

Does the Dark Lord "need" a low end cab, like a 15" or something. I've heard different opinions. As my DL should be ready in the next few weeks, I'd be as well getting a new cab if the people in the know felt it would be a necessity???

Yes, you will need a cab that can reproduce that low of a frequency if you actually want to hear the fundamental. My understanding is that frequency range is more important than speaker size. I believe the massive speaker magnets they are using (200 oz.) is the reason behind this. Check out the difference in the frequency range of the Basson 210 versus their 115 cab. The 210 actually has a lower frequency range. The 115 weighs in at 84 pounds but the 210 weighs 110 pounds!

Either way you have to tune down or up, but if if you are going to stay in CGCF forever, the DarkLord seems as the obvious choice. Either way, you have to tune down or up. I would see the DarkLord as the no.1 for you.

I`ve played in C-tuning with my 5 str. Vampyre SN, with the B tuned in C, and even though the strings were pretty thight, it sounded killer.

edit= I see you write "getting a 4 string as well". Does it mean you are getting a 5- AND a 4-string? Well, get a 5-string Vampyre SN or Taranis, and a Dark Lord. 8)

as far as i know the fundamental of the F# is really just too low to expect cabs to be able to reproduce it propperly. even if some cabs claim the "get down there", the frequency response of those ultralow frequencies will be so bad that there wont be much point.

the best approach (in my opinion) is to get a rig that'll make the tone sound good with the harmonics and for that i wouldnt get the 15s as they wont be able to reproduce the fundamental and they wont be defined enough either. i reakon you'll need smaller speakers.
 
i was thinking about 10 inch cones and smaller... :wink:
 
I know - but 12" seem to be really quite a good trade-off between 15" and 10".
If he want's more punchy and heavy bass he would have to go with a 15" - but hence the fact that his low notes produce a lot of really low frequencies the speaker would start mudding the notes.
So if he takes the 10" he get's a lot more of clarity in his tone - but effectively loses those´real deep ball-shacking punch.
I would then try to go for 12"...
