I don't know whether this is correct or not, but as I've "done up" a few old Warwicks in need of TLC and have bought quite a bit of replacement hardware, all the tailpieces I have bought in the last couple of years have been wide enough to fit my choice of low B string - DR HiBeam .130" - without any filing. Perhaps Warwick has widened the channel on current tailpieces? Or maybe I just got lucky :d
In any case, I too prefer untapered strings as I don't like the high bridge saddles and because I use quite a bit of palm muting, untapered strings are easier to control. The bonus is that Warwick B-strings sound absolutely killer and I don't think a tapered string is really necessary, like it is with many other brands...
