Untapered B Strings??? HELP.

I don't know whether this is correct or not, but as I've "done up" a few old Warwicks in need of TLC and have bought quite a bit of replacement hardware, all the tailpieces I have bought in the last couple of years have been wide enough to fit my choice of low B string - DR HiBeam .130" - without any filing. Perhaps Warwick has widened the channel on current tailpieces? Or maybe I just got lucky :d
In any case, I too prefer untapered strings as I don't like the high bridge saddles and because I use quite a bit of palm muting, untapered strings are easier to control. The bonus is that Warwick B-strings sound absolutely killer and I don't think a tapered string is really necessary, like it is with many other brands...
 
Hey everyone - filed the tailpiece just enough for a set of D'addario Nickel .130's and viola. Sounds great, no cotton wrap and you cant tell the filing has been done. At this point I'm quite happy, to fit EB Slinkies a bit more filing may need to be done but I think I'm really digging the sound of these.

Just a quick update re tailpieces - I am now the proud owner of a lovely Corvette $$ 6, and the tailpiece is too narrow for an untapered B, so I think I got lucky with the ones I ordered. It's a 5-minute job to file it and it doesn't show, so it's not a big deal.
 
Yeah true XB - the file job only took about 5 minutes with minimal 'elbow grease'. You cant tell it's done and the improvement for me to have untapered B and E is major. I guess I originally thought it was gonna be a hard fiddly job but I was wrong!
