Unexpected wengé!

As I was walking up the library stairs, I noticed that the venéer in the banister seemed very familiar:

Isn't that funny, and I do the same...I look at wood closer than I ever have...and try to recognize what kind it is. Good eye there, sad that the Wenge is so beat up, they need to refinish it!

Maple with a wenge laminate huh? could work as a neck. not sure a bout that profile though, a bit too round for my tastes

Nah, it is actually in good shape. The wengé grain is just so open and nice.
