Twin Jazz epiphany

So we all know Warwick has a twin-j pickup but why do they still have the single? Costs are of course a factor and I don't know anyone who complains about a single-j tone (myself included), but why would a Warwick user/lover want a bass that didn't have a twin jazz in it?

More jazz pickup=more jazz tone goodness right? Is there any reason someone wouldn't want to upgrade their single-j to a TJ? Because right now I can't think of one (maybe excluding thumbs)
 
I don't know friend, but I'd love to try a TJ pup in a Warwick, especially the LTD Dirty Blonde w/ the P/TJ configuration. I'm a big lover of the Bridge pup sound, ever since I first started listening to Jaco and Weather Report. Some member probably dislike the TJ or bridge pup because of it having less bass, but then again you can always boost the bass with the on board preamp.
 
The Twin J is a really nice pickup when both coils are running, but on the 2008 LTD Streamer I had I found the tone a bit thin with the coils soloed - thinner than with a stock J.

That's my experience - They sounded nice, but they aren't the same as a single J when the coils are soloed.

That was one of my big questions about the TJ, if it can be considered a single J when split. I guess the coils are wound differently.

You and me both. The tone on Andy Saxton's youtube clips get me all hot and bothered

How close was the bridge pup to the bridge and where was the other one placed when you played it? It's interesting you brought this up because there were TJ clips I heard hear on the forum that, to my ears, told me the TJ had a wider frequency response giving the bass a more hi-fi tone with lots more thump and upper register crispness. This was compared to two single j's in a corvette I think. I could be wrong about the model but it was definitely two sjs

But the player could have been running both coils all the time in the clips. That's actually what I would prefer, I probably wouldn't even try to solo one of the pairs

Isn't that because when using only the single of the TJ, the closet to the bridge is solo'ed, unlike the $$ which uses the top poles of the pup when set to single coil or the fact that the MM HB is spaced a bit away from the bridge and the bottom poles are used?
