Tryed my first RB today... believe it or not...

I was driving home and I drive this way alot and have been noticing a transparent blue rb corvette std in the window of this music shop (blue dot guitars - in oregon city, or) So after staring at it for over a month now everytime I drive by I had to stop and try it out. Other than the guy being a bit snobby and the store having a horrid selection of instruments... It's an ok store :P

I plugged er into a little kustom bass amp... Fiddled with the knobs a bit and the tone that came out of that bass was amazing. I'm usually not a fan of ash/alder & maple... But this bass sounded awesome... It's very very very warm sounding but still have a little of that warwick tone... I figure its the mecs. I couldnt get a good slap tone out of it... I figure its due to the way the guy set it up and the strings... But with a low action and some d.r. highbeams... I bet that would of sounded awesome for slapbass. The weight really surprised me... It has to be the lightest bass I've ever played. Compared to my 6 string thumb bo... its a feather.

I have a feeling... If it came down to a US fender jazz or that rockbass corvette... I'd have to go with the corvette... That beats by far hands down any us fender I've ever played. I'm surprised at the quality and tone you get for under $500... Awesome instrument :)
 
+1. A firend of mine plays a RB, and it's a bass that does the job very well. It feels very well made, you are anot afraid to go without a backup. And the sound is very good. I guess If you make some recordings nobody will believe it is a $ 500 bass.
 
I've said it before... I've always preferred my rockbasses to the US Fender I used to own!

I really, really have this Rockbass itch, and I'm not sure if it's good or not. First of all, I haven't played one, only held one in my hands. I'm pretty sure it's a great instrument, but.............one thing that bums me, is the fact that the RB Corvette doesn't come equiped (standard) with security locks. This means I have to have a different strap. I know the security locks come standard on the 2007 Streamer, and I feel all Rockbasses should be equiped this way...............Secondly, Rockbasses are like the little, more affordable versions of Warwicks, but why on earth do they have this horrible cheesy logo on the headstock ?? It sort of scares me.............and personally, I can afford Warwicks, so if I get a Rockbass, I should get it because of the different (more mellow?) sound compared to Warwick basses, and NOT because it's affordable...........

Ahhhhh................so many basses..........
 
I took care of the ugly logo on my rockbass with some black hockey tape. :) Can't tell at all (except for in pictures with a flash)



I think the sound is fantastic on my rockbass... definitately gives most sub $800 basses a run for their money. It's the bass I will play at bars if I don't want to bring my doublebuck and I have no problem with sound. I will say that my input jack had to be replaced after 1 month (I'm sure it was just like that when I bought it), but other than that it's been great!
 
ThirdthumB... I fitted Warwick locks to my Streamer Rockbass...so I can use the same strap with all my basses. Got them from Bass Centre in UK... but I'm sure they are quite easy to get in other countries.

Yos9... looks like you've got the Corvette Classic with the flamed maple veneer and sunburst. I had the fretless version... a seriously cool bit of kit for the money. I sold mine... one of my rockbasses had to go when I got my $$ and I decided to keep the Streamer... I've got a thing about it as my first fretless... not as versatile as the active Corvette, but it's still a killer when I put it through my EBS pre-amp!

By the way... the cheesy "Rockbass" logo doesn't bother me, but the black tape thing is a good idea!

Putting straplocks on only takes like 2 or 3 minutes and only cost around $10-$15 or so... And I dont see anything wrong with the logo :P

Yeah, it should be a piece of cake job to replace the straplocks............but I'm also a bit sceptical about unscrewing and rescrewing the thing; if I look at the two screws, one from my 2001 Thumb BO, and the other of my 2005 Thumb NT, they're different in size.................so I was also worried that I was going to "screw" up by using the the wrong screw.........ruining the wooden thread.................stuff like that................
 
Don't wory about that. You cannot do something that you cannot fix with a toothpick , and glue :-)
 
I just purchased a set of Dunlop Flush mount Strap Locks and will post pics of the swap is anyone is interested!!

Yeah, I read a bunch of that stuff too on this forum; I guess it's really fabulous if you can fix a bass that way, but I'd rather avoid the situation of jamming a toothpick in my bass.......... :wink:
Maybe if you had Bubinga or Ovangkol toothpicks...........that might change my mind though.............. :D

Actually... When I changed out my warwick straplocks for the old dunlop styled ones I took a drive over to home depot and bought a bigger set of screws, So now I have wider/longer screws holding my straplocks on... Works great and no worry about somethng coming loose :)
 
First remove old strap button

Drill a 3/8 inch hole I lined up the depth of the locking mech. and marked the depth with masking tape to assure I didn't go to deep

insert nech. and take a 7/16 bit and drill 7/8 deep for the screw
 
NExt take your strap mech. and insert thru strap and add washer then press on e clip.

you're now done and ready to rock


It was farly easy but i do have cabinet and woodworking experience but easy none the less. I had very minimal chipping and was easily hidden. Just be sure to use soap or something on your screw before putting in the hole it makes it easier to insert. I also put a couple dabs of super glue on the locking mech. so good luck and I hope this was helpful!!

I've been thinking about doing the same... But I figure if I ever do forget my strap and I have internal straplocks... I'm sorta screwed... So I'll stick with my regular dunlop straplocks.

wow you guys on this forum all hate fender jazz basses. Ok, it is your point of view but I can't think of exchanging my fender for a rockbass. I've tried a lot of rockbass, and they aren't that good. But, the price/quality of the rockbass is great, I've got to admit. But not enough to say that those basses kick my jazz bass which I consider as good as any warwick but it has a really different sound.
