Just how tight should the truss rod feel when tightening? Following "" I am getting some the flattening out, but not enough. The truss rod seems tight now and needs much more effort to tighten. Is this resistance from the neck or the rod at its limit? Should I carry on?

I can defiantly get more bow by slackening the rod, I just don't seem to get anywhere near flat, when tightening. I'm confused :?:

Hey man,
What bass do you have, what serial number? If it is an older one, it is possible to work in the opposite direction.
When you tighten the trussrod do like this:
Keep the bass between your knees, and the body between your ankles. Then "Help" the neck a little bit, press it backwards while turning the trussrod CW ( or CCW for some vintage models)
Let's say you should be able to twist the trussrod tool with two fingers. If more force is needed, it is not OK.

You can also remove all of the tension from the strings before turning the rod to flatten the neck which will relieve some of the pressure, and also manually help the neck a little as Florin suggested while turning the truss rod. It shouldn't feel very difficult - and if excess force is required, please have it checked by a luthier before forcing it.

;)

Thanks guys for your help. I've decided to take it my local store for a pro setup, its only £50, if there are any issues with the rod it will have to go back to Warwick, i only bought it 10months ago, so its still under warranty. I don't want to be responsible for spoiling such a great bass.

Thanks again.

Please let us know how you solve the problem.

I got my bass back from the luthier today, best £50 i've spent in a while. Bass setup is superb, action down to 2mm. My problems were with a sticky truss rod, the luthier simply oiled it and everything was fine. Thanks again fro your advice.

Ah!!!! Monseur Golem always told us:
WD 40, don't forget the WD 40!!!
He was right, I will never forget from now.
On the other hand a friend brought a bass for setup, and I felt like cleaning it too. I tell you, WD40 + scotchbrite works wonders. :-) The frets are clean again too!
