Truss Rod Replacement

Just picked up a Streamer Redwood 4 string at a super steal of a price on a private sale. I believe that the Truss rod needs replacing. When you attempt to adjust the rod [turning clockwise] the wrench turns approxmately 1/8 of a turn then the wrench just spins like it's stripped.
Any suggestions as to where to go for a rod replacement & a possible ballpark price for the repair.

Try turning it more, maybe it is in the "dead zone", where there are about 2 ful turns without any action.
 
Ok......I'll give that a try and I will get back to you with the results in a few days.
Now, if that doesn't work, would you say that the truss rod needs to be replaced and is the rod in this model replaceable ?
 
Florin; the serial number is B-153363-10. I haven't tried your suggestion as of yet, but that's my next move. You said try turning it about 2 more full turns. Now if that does not work I'm assuming that the truss rod is bad and will need replacing. Is the rod in this bass a removeable type or would the fingerboard have to be removed to replace the rod ? I'm hoping that the rod does not need to be replaced and if it does, I'm hoping that the rod is a removeable type and the fingerboard does not have to be removed.
Do you have any idea on a ballpark figure for this type of repair & would the Shop in NYC be able to do the work ? Thanks for you assistance.
 
Hi Joe,

You have a 2 way non removable trussrod. So when you turn it clockwiseit tighten the neck. When you turn it ccw, it applies a force backwards.
So inbetween those points, it is a "dead spot" where the trussrod moves without any action. So if your tr was set to press backwards, if you want to tighten it to the front, first it will be in the "zero action" zone, then it will engage again.

Thanks alot for the info on the 2 way truss rod and that dead zone. I did what you suggested, I tuned up and turned the Truss Rod 3 full turns and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks again for that bit of info on the "Dead Zone" !!
