Ok, so I finally picked up my brand spanking new Thumb 5 LTD 2006 (the dirty blonde). I get it new this past saturday, take it to my favorite luthier to have it set up yesterday, and he discovers the turss rod is broken!!!!!!

Someone, Please tell me, what should I do? I dont want to return it because its an LTD and I love it too much. WIll Warwick or Dana B Goods be able to help me?

Ollie, any ideas buddy? Im a loyal warwick fan and dont want to see my brotherly bass lying wounded in the field!!!

Mr. dude,

your Dirty Blonde will be in bass heaven once it's taken care of by the Warwick/DBG crew. But it's still a bummer to hear about the fault.................Don't worry, everything will turn out ok..............I'm sure about that. :D

that is harsh! im sure warwick or your distributer will sort it out though.. still i feel the pain of the hassle it must cause...ive had problems with new basses in the past which has meant ive had to send the bass back... its soo annoying!

so, who should I contact first? Warwick directly somehow, or Dana B Goods? I want to make the call this week so that I can get it sorted out and back to me asap!

How exactly is it broken and how much experience does your tech have with Warwick's? Have you gotten a second opinion yet? ~M~

they have worked on my other warwicks since I got my first one two years ago, and they have never had a problem workin on them. They said that even wit turning, the truss rod does not seem to change anything in the neck as it should.

This could very well be a case of some slack in the rod. Considering it's an '06, and has been in more than a few different climates, and has likely settled a good bit since the first setup, the trussrod probably just has some slack in it that has to be taken up. I've heard of instances where it's taken more than a full turn to see any change and this could be one of those. I pm'd you Tyler's contact info and I'd call him about it tomorrow - he's on Pacific time so the office hours are a little different than ours. Call your tech tomorrow and get him/her to explain what exactly they did, write it down, then talk to Tyler. Should be fixed up pretty quick! Congrats on the new baby, even if it's a little bumpy right now  ~M~

avionix, I got your PM. I contacted my tech and he said that he gave it 2.5 turns and saw nothing! That cant be good. I will call Tyler tomorrow. Good thing that I ahve more lbieral use of my phone in the afternoons EST since the Dana B guys will likely be in their offices!

I want this baby fixed! I want to rub her up and down, and stroke her and pet her and.......oh dear, my pants are off

LMFAO

Sorry about whats happening to your baby, hope she gets better. :)

per avionix's suggestions, I had the guy try again to see if truss rod slack was the problem. Since we are up to a decent number of turns of the rod with no change, I am convinced it is broken.

I guess I should call Dana B Goods this afternoon and talk to them about it. What a pain in the @$$

I don't want to blame anyone for this, but these new trussrods that we have been using for this past few years are VERY HARD to break. The only way to break one of these is by over adjusting it actually. But anyways, don't worry, you have a Warwick bass in your hands, and a very particular one for that matter.

Since you are in the USA, Dana B. Goods will be able to help you out with your bass. Don't worry, it will be fine again in no time, so go ahead and give them a call or shoot Tyler Krupsky an e-mail.

Thanks Ollie! i wonder if someone was tinkering with it at the store before I laid eyes on it and THEY broke it!

My tech is a top notch tech and I can vouch for him when he says it was busted before he even touched it. I might n ot trust anyone elses word on this, but his I do.

But don't worry, the problem will get fixed sooner than you think.

thanks to avionix and ollie and all the rest for their great help! Tyler at Dana B Goods should be applauded for his great customer service! He calmed down my every worry, told me it was going to be the sickest bass ever when I get it back :)

We talked shop and repair stuff for a while, talked about warwick basses and the different ways they can rin us financially, hehe, and he has me set up for a turn around of less than a month, which is great in my book!

He said that it may just be the nut in the truss rod that isnt engaged properly, in which case they can fix it easily. He can also slap a new truss rod in there and get it good to go

I will say this, after my tech looked at it and tried to set it up, its not bad as it is now, I just wouldnt be able to make any further adjustments. New England weather toys with wood A LOT, and why not get it repaired while the warranty was in tact!

Than ks again guys!!!!!!!

Just as a side note Graham,my Thumb's truss rod came completely undone & the tech had to give it a dozen or so turns to re-engage it.Before he did this he pushed his ear up against the back of the neck & muted the strings lightly with his hand & tapped on the back of the neck,he was listening for a particular sound that would tell him the truss rod was broken.A kind of metallic ping,he described it as.Seeing as it sounded ok from this test he then concluded the rod had come undone.
Cheers buddy.
