Tremolo

ok so i bought my $$ without the tremolo on it from the custom shop it is just a standard corvette $$ and i wanted to put a 4 string kahler tremolo on it...does anyone know how to install it
 
The Kahler should come with a routing template and instructions, but if you aren't comfortable routing the wood on your bass and making sure the Kahler is aligned for proper intonation, I would take it to a pro luthier who can install it for you for around $100 - $150.

That's what I did with my 5-string $$. Cost me $150 for the install, but I never could have done it myself:
 
Also, to get the proper intonation, my Kahler had to be installed closer to the pickups, leaving the route from the old tailpiece exposed. So I covered over the route with a strip of chrome auto molding and it looks pretty cool, but not perfect.

If you do it yourself, you will need the template that's in the back of the kahler book that comes with the tremolo and you will need a small router tool. First step is to determine where the Kahler will sit so that the saddles under the strings match where they are on the original bridge, so as to have proper intonation. Make a small mark with a pencil that won't show up after you're done. Then remove the old hardware, set the template where you marked it to go and begin routing. Once the route is done, mount the Kahler, drill small holes for the screws to go in and screw it down. Put the strings on and use the allen wrenches to align the saddles and string anchors, then set the tremolo spring tension (small allen screw on top) and saddle/string height. Once it's all balanced out, you'll be all set to have some whammy madness fun! :D
 
so do u think that i will have to put the extra piece of chrome there to but im getting it in black

Unfortunatly no.
They're extremely busy building basses & dont do aftermarket mods.
A good luthier in your area can handle the job,no worries.

Ya dont have to.That's just there to look nice.
You're installing a tremolo for it's practical use or it's appearance?
 
What about a Hipshot Tremolo? Has anyone tried having one of these mounted in a Warwick?

The Hipshot takes a LOT of wood out of a "Sound of Wood" bass. I prefer the Kahler.

If the luthier's really good, he can fill in the gap with matching wood and stain. Or you can do like me and find black auto body molding at an auto parts store.

Once the bass has had the tailpiece put in, there's no getting around the gap - even Warwick couldn't avoid it in an aftermarket install (which they won't even do anyway).

As Greg said, it comes down to function over beauty - or do like I did and get creative. maybe even a cool sticker of your favorite band or sports team could go there...
 
hmm tough decision i don't want to ruin my bass cosmetically but i want a tremolo
