Treble Pot problem

Hi everyone.

The treble pot on my FNA is no longer functioning. How do I find out if it's the pot, the board, the wiring, etc.?

I know I can just take it to a luthier or GC and have it fixed, but I like to learn this stuff. Anyone wanna help out a stubborn bald guy?
 
First, I'd try giving it a clean Doc.
Blow it out with a can of compressed air, then give it a spray with electronics contact cleaner. This is like WD-40 & available from any hardware or auto supply store. Check the wiring between the pot & everything it connects to. Basically, all the common sense stuff.
That's about the fullest extent of my technical expertise goes I'm afraid mate.
 
If you take the pot out, then a multimeter ought to tell you if the pot is working correctly - just measure the resistance between the different pins as you turn the pot.
If this is working ok, then put the pot back in, and trace where the wires go to, then connecting your multimeter there should tell you if the wires are ok.

I have to say, it's more likely to be the board, but it's worth checking the pot as this will be much cheaper to fix than the board would be.
 
i would say to try to fix it yourself it shouldn't be to hard to figure out whats bad and i don't trust the techs at gc if you take it somewhere you can find somebody better.
 
Hi doc,

As a rookie, I open the compartment, let a string to vibrate, then start to shake the wires, pots, pc board etc. If the sound appears it means it is something unsoldered / broken and I look and fix the problem.
If nothing happens I go to a tech :-)
 
its called the wiggle test and i do it all the time on the trucks i work on,first eyeball everything then a wiggle and if i don't get a result then it's time to dig deep.
