Hello guys, this is Warwick related because im in the talks regarding a warwick trade ;)

Not sure if this is the correct area to ask this question (if so please change Admin)

But I’m just wondering if anyone has ever dealt with trading basses with other people that aren’t in person (overseas, shipping interstate etc) and if someone could enlighten me on the protocol when it comes to the exchange.

I would feel a bit weird sending a bass to a location and “hoping” the other person will do the same.

It seems a trust based scenario where it’s like “I’ll send mine if you send yours” And I guess if its left your location, whos to say the other person is going to do the same…

Can someone let me know their stories and any tips etc that would be great. (or if its not a good idea at all!)

It certainly is all about trust and ethical behaviour for sure. It's not that different to paying for a bass and then hoping it gets sent to you. I suppose Paypal is some level of a safety net.
 
Yea i tend to trust paypal with the security thing they have in place. It would be good if there was some 3rd party that holds one untill the other arrives and then sends them both to both parties :P

Any one actually sucessfully done this? or been screwed over?? im up and down about it..
 
If you plan to deal with Forum member, I think every member active more than one year is reliable.
If not Forum member, I can't imagine what could guarantee you the other side's ethical behavior. You are not secured that way.
 
There might be a Paypal solution where you send money and refund the guy when you have a proff of shipping. Or when you received the Bass.
 
I think it's all about trust.
I don't have experience with trades but I bought some basses from international sellers.
I used a cash on delivery option once, you can do that with a trade also.

You send your bass with a cash on delivery option (so you will get money)
And with a trade the other one can do the same. If the amounts are the same you'll have a fair trade with the least risks for both parties.

Like that, or you could just pay each other equal amounts.
 
I've never had issues with dealing with forum members... As someone said, I don't think an older forum member will be unhonest with you, we are a bunch of cool guys here.
 
And don't forget the "buyer/seller feedback"-thread!
 
That spector of mine having a bit of interests for trades but all interstate :/
 
Yep will trust you guys but it's with non forum members unfortunately
 
In that case I wouldn't take any gamble and wait for a better deal to come across.
 
Yeah man know what you mean but it's for a SS2 which is tempting :p sill its a gamble
 
So when I trade with someone I don't know well, since I (think) I have a solid reputation here, I ask the guy to ship/ pay first, then I know I will do my part. That way I am safe :-)

That's typically how I do it but when both sides are saying "no, you ship first"....it doesn't always work out lol
