Tone... need more bottom

Tone... ever evolving search

Just looking for a little guidance. I play a Streamer LX. P/j... I set it up with low action and light (40 to 95) DR High Beams. I was very happy with my tone but was having trouble with sounding articulate over fast passages.
I decided to change to a standard (45-105) set of DRs to see if it would help tighten up the slop...
Had to set up whole bass, rod, nut, bridge. I can't get the tone I want out of the bass. Very thin sounding, sounds like my attack is a lot more aggressive... no roundness to tone.
Set up is pretty low on nut and bridge. Neck with slight relief, pickups as close as possible.
Most guys I see in town or know/read about their gear use standard strings (players who's tone I love).
I see clips of guys like Florin or Lex who seem to have a huge tone, but their set up looks easy (low).
Is this more of an EQ issue. I play in NYC and use the house backline so I am trying to have a consistent tone with minimal EQ...

Hi Mario,

I have a medium - not too low action - 3mm for B string, 2 mm for G string...

Whe it is too low, no matter what bass you play it will sound... choked...

Your bass should sound great with no EG mate. You also use good strings...

Maybe it is something wrong with the electronics and stuff... but if everything is OK... I'd try to trust the original sound of the bass

Warwicks tend to sound less bassy when played home, but more powerful in the mix than "regular" basses.

Thanks for replying Florin. You are so right about tone live vs home... That's what gets me in trouble... when things are slow and I am home shedding I start to get obsessed about tone and I mess with my set up. Looking for a point of reference, I found and posted a YouTube vid of a recent rehearsal... the sound is close to ideal for me. I like a strong bottom along as isn't too loose....

So did you fix your problem, cause you're tone

I've solved the problem... a bit too much chrome on your bass! LOL

Sounds fine on the video though. ;0)

I have absolutely no idea how to solve your problem, Cubanbass...

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I am closer to being satisfied with my sound on a more consistent basis. I ended up with a couple of set up tweaks, mainly a little neck relief, a new set of strings (went back to 45 -105). The action is a little higher but I feel I am getting a better attack with a more consistent tone.

My sound us only under a microscope when I am playing at home... maybe at a rehearsal, but never on the gig. At the gig my ear is on the mix, drums, and my attention is on the stage/show... So my problem may be that I have too much time on my hands!
