I saw a neck-thru Thumb (five sting) for $1800 brand new. I'm thinking about grabbing it. How would it compare to the Corvett $$ NT? I love that $$ but.... anyways whats your opinion?

At $1800, that would be hard to pass up.

You know my opinion on the 4-string $$ NT versus the 4-string Thumb NT - I'd say the $$ has more punch, the Thumb has more growl. But the pickup positioning on the 5-string Thumb NT makes it a somewhat different beast. Some love it, some, well, not so much...

In any case,

1800 bucks for a brand new Thumb 5 NT is too cheap (I hope it's not from internet): get it !!!

No it's not from the internet. It's at GC. They're trying to get it to move because its been hanging on the wall for a year or two. Earlier this year I got a Corvette Jazz FNA out the door for $1100, it had been there for almost 3 yrs.

I guess I'll try it out this weekend. 8)

$1,800.00 is a fair price for a Thumb NT5 in great condition. Do you know what year it is? Does it have the wenge neck or the ovangkol neck? I paid $1,999 for a 1998 Thumb NT 5 in mint condition with a wenge neck and am very happy with it, as I am personally biased towards the wenge neck. Just check it out very closely since it has been hanging on the wall at Guitar Center for a while. Also, Guitar Center has a nasty habit of overpricing their merchandise but they do match prices, although they will not tell you that upfront. I bought a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass from Washington Music Center for $585, yet that same bass is $700 at Guitar Center. My advice, do your research and show them that you are knowledgeable AND also be willing to walk out of the store if they are not reasonable. Nine times out of ten they will make you a better offer before you get out of the door. Good luck.

I'm good with one of the Assistant Mgrs & I always get stuff at their cost (unless its on clearance) so I will check it out. Not sure if its wenge neck or not, nor do I know the year. I'll post more info soon.

Get it! I paid $1800 for my '03 NT5 in great cond. at GC. You do have to watch them over there. I've seen them put up 2nd hand instruments with new price tags. You will be happy with your Thumb as long as you let it do it's Thumb thing. Either way I'd say it's a great investment. Btw...No offense to GC. we're still good.

OK, I'm going to try out the Thumb NT today. I'm searching for a Streamer $$. But, how does the Corvette "Hot Rod" compare to the $$?? I've always wanted to try one but never heard any reviews on them.

I've never tried one either. Lots of maple on board, I suspect it's an absolute funk machine!

Dude, that's not the right answer !!
I figured if anyone had tried one it would be you.

Sorry, bro. LOL

I've only played the 01 and 02 Limited basses.

I bet it's a great bass, but I also bet it's almost the opposite of the Corvette $$...

If you are getting gear from Guitar Center at their cost, then you have a very good friend indeed! Congrats on that. If you prefer the older models with the wenge neck have your friend search the Guitar Center database to see if they have any 1998 or earlier models available in their chain. This is how I got my 1998 Thumb this past year. This way you may get an even cheaper price, and IMHO a better bass. But, to play it safe, have him set the other Thumb aside for you while he checks the inventory. Good Luck and let us know how things turn out.

Well, I checked out that Thumb NT today. I was surprised that it was not too heavy. The neck is a little thicker than what I'm used to. But honestly...I didn't like it.

Let's face, I have to have another Corvette $$. It probably didn't help that I tried it out on a Trace Elliott (don't care for them too much) but it just didn't have that low end that $$ have. Hey, but if anyone is looking for a Thumb NT, let them know GC has one brand new marked down to $1844!
