Thumb BO for Streamer LX?

I just got a Thumb BO 4 recently, and I absolutely love it. However, I've always preferred Streamers and have the opportunity to trade for a Streamer LX 4. It's a beaut too! My thumb is an '05 while the Streamer is a '99. I'm leaning towered it, but am looking for some feedback. My bass is in excellent condition, no real cosmetic flaws. The LX is in very good condition, but does have some dings/scratching by the tail, nothing else though. Does this sound fair, or would I be a fool to do this?

I know they are different tones, but I love them both, with maybe a bit of an edge to the Streamer. I also think the Streamer is more comfortable. So, anyone...thoughts?
 
I think it's a reasonable trade. Maybe you can work out a honeymoon period. If either of you arent completely satisfied, you swap back.
 
+1 on the Honeymoon period. Trades can often leave one person feeling slighted so that's a way to ensure mutual satisfaction.
 
It´s a fair trade. But, as those basses are very diferent animals, the honeymoon period sounds like something reasonable, in case you miss your Thumb, or you found the Streamer LX isn´t what you thought.
 
i like streamers better so i would do the trade.and i think there a little harder to find used i haven't seen as many for sale as i have thumb bo.
 
As said before it is about an even trade so you should base a possible swap of both instruments on other factors, check the LX out first, (i guess the other party has already decided yet innit?) it is an other animal as said before, pro's for the LX are the more allroundness, weight and better balance (tone- and wear-wise) con for the LX would be an instrument that's more mainstream but this is all my opinion...
 
Honestly, it should be a pretty easy decision if you get to play them side by side for about an hour or less. Usually one will really "Outshine" the other as far as your taste goes. I would trade my Corvette for a thumb in a heartbeat.

The decision should be pretty easy when you have them both in your hands, but it is VERY personal. I sat down with a Thumb BO4 and a streamer LX4 and I could have afforded either one. I went the LX, it just fit and sang in my hands, the thumb didn’t flip (all of) my switches. But that’s me, just didn’t dig the thumb bolt. I wouldn’t trade the LX for a thumb (well maybe a NT but that’s different) even though I think the Thumb is a bit more expensive and some would jump at the deal. Not I. many people would feel the opposite way, hope you find one.

The trick with the honeymoon period is both agreeing. It could get awkward if one sais yes and the other no or maybe, make sure one of you doesn't pressure the other (that would be very un-dude) and that you are BOTH happy.
 
Thanks for all the advice! I've decided to go ahead and make the trade. I'm gonna be out of town all this week, so I won't get the bass until I get back sometime over the weekend...I'm sure there will be pictures pasted all over this site once I get it!
 
I mean... this is like changing Megan Fox for Halle Berry. Both are damn hot, one is maybe older and has more dings - but it's a matter of taste.
... can't you just get both? ;D
 
I have those both as 5 stringers (that's the optimal solution, get them both :). I perhaps like more about Thumb because the way it sounds, it works for me. In 5-stringer pup positioning is bit different than in 4-strings Thumb and I think this pup positioning in 5-strings Thumb gives it a bit more edge. Like said, sound wise Thumb works better for me, but I have to admit, that from usability point of view, LX is "easier" to play.

I had that LX before my Thumb and I was thinking, that this bass's a killer sounding one (still is). When I got my Thumb, it blew me away. All in all, if I would have to sell eighter one, it would be that LX. You decided to go with that LX and it is very good decision :) If you'll have second thoughts there should be plenty used 4-string Thumbs for sale, with very good price, so get them both, then you don't have to regret anything ;)
 
I did get the LX, and have had it about 2 weeks. I love it! I do miss the thumb, and it's a great bass...and one of these days I will get another one for sure. I prefer the sound of the 4 string thumb vs the 5 honestly, but I do need another Warwick 5....sadly, I'm buying new tires for my car instead (a bit more of a necessity). Once I have some more money though, I will probably go with that plan of grabbing another Thumb and having both...unless I get a good deal on a Streamer Stage II.

Whats a good deal? i got my SSII (4 stringer, HP finish) for 1400 euro used, i do not think you can get it much cheaper then that...
 
A good deal is whenever I have enough money to afford one! haha
