things I/we would like to see the custom shop offer.

Okay, I have been looking around at the diferent options that many luthiers/custom shops offer. And, I have come up with a small list of some things that I would love to see warwick add to their ever growing list of options... If anyone has anyhting to add to this list please do..


Keep in mind that I am not 100% postive that warwick already offers some of these ideas..

1. Offer the ability to have a different neck radious on your custom shop bass. IE a thin "jazz bass" style neck maybe even Asymetrical. Not that I have a problem with the nick on my warwick 8) .

2. Different size frets. This was really my only gripe was the frets are about the size of a pencil (j/k). I have a friend who has a 1990 stage 1 and he had it refretted with small frets (not brass). This bass plays like butter I was actually surprised at how much it changed the sound and playability. I would really like to see what a set of small brass frets would sound like.

3. More fretboard wood options. Cocobolo, Bubinga, Birdseye maple, Pau, Maybe even pale moon ebony as a super super special order.. I think that this could really be a neat idea especially for fretless fans IE Daimond wood, Kings wood....


4. Custom tops on the Thumb and streamers. I dont know if this has changed but I remember hearing that you could not have a custom top put on the Thumb because of the curve on the body. Not to bash that idea but Spector does it (sorry had to say it).


Alright I am done just had to get it off my chest. Please if you guys have any ideas add them.

This should probably be in the "custom shop" category... but I'll add mahogany as a body wood.

They just added it :)

Along with a couple different burl tops. Check out the wood option's on the warwick.de page :D
 
This is not exactly a custom shop option or perhaps yes, I'm not sure but I would like to see bolt on models of certain basses as the Vampyre, the Dolphin or the Infinity specially 6 string broad neck versions (so in the future I can order another 7 string ^^)

They sure did. That must be really new, I think I was on there just last week. Uh oh, my custom idea is realistic now...

I think what you read about is that Koa doesn't come in thick enough for thumbs or streamers. But I am pretty sure all other woods can be used as tops for them.
 
I agree with the neck radius comment. Several years ago I inquired about having a custom shop Dolphin made with the neck radius of a Thumb or Streamer and was told this could not be done. Seems odd from a custom shop. I'm still not sure why the Dolphin neck was made wider in the first place. Oh well, I've been playing Warwicks since 1990 and still love em !

Man, I thought I had trouble settling on basses! You deserve a Warwick bass comparison VIP card...
 
I've had more Warwicks than that,if you count all the ones in my dreams that is.Very impressive list of basses tho Stingray,enough to rival the Warwick Museum. :wink:
 
We offer different neck woods just like you asked, and most of the woods we offer can be used on a Thumb bass or a Streamer bass. We just added a few new top woods to the custom shop last week and hope you all like it.

I wish I would have kept them all! I'm still kicking myself for letting most of them go. It was a great learning experience though, I really learned alot about what feels right and what dosn't. Thumbs are incredible basses but aren't the most comfortable for me to play strapped on. I still own 2 of them. The Streamer Stage 2 is my bass of choice for playability, comfort and tone. The most comfortable bass to me is the Dolphin. Unfortunatly the wider neck on the 4 string is not the best for me, however the spacing on a 5 string Dolphin would be perfect. Now try and find a late 80's to mid 90's Dolphin 5 string, it's almost impossible! I'll be ordering a Streamer Stage 2 eight string in the near future. There's nothing like a great Warwick Bass!
 
I have heared rumors that the custom shop can make a 6-string Stage II with the normal (16.5 mm) string spacing. Is this true, Ollie? If it is then I might have something new to think about.

Technically it is not possible to do calling it a Stage II. You never jump a few walls to make it work like that... Basically, you want a Streamer Stage I with an Afzelia body and Thumb NT string spacing in 6 strings with JJ pickups.
 
Yeah... basically. So it could be done right? I have a strong urge to see one of those. I've never ever tried a Warwick 6-stringer with the normal stringspacing. Would be very interesting.

Ok. I just talked to Hans Peter about it, and basically the answer is YES. We can do a Streamer Stage II 6 strings, but only as a custom shop order.

Wow, it sounds really tempting. I would have to find a 6-string Warwick first though.
