Curently I'm in the process of searching for new pups, P-J's.
What are your experiences with the different manufacturers?

What are the differences between EMG, Seymour Duncan, Nordtstrant and Bartolini?

Rather than me typing it all out (Its alot of descriptions). Tell me what kind of tone you want from the pickups and I can point you in a pretty good direction..

from what ive heard;

for warwick growl choose MECs

for deep dark tones choose barts (sound perfect for fretlesses to me)

i dont think warwick growl is all due to the MEC pickups... what about the older warwicks which have barts, they still have lots of warwick growl.

You are right to some extent. In the past we have used EMG and Bartolini pickups for our basses. It all came down to a point in which we were producing too many basses for the amount of pickups that EMG could produce at one single point for one company. So we started using Bartolini as well, then we just asked Vlado Hansal, owner and founder of MEC (Music Electronic Company) if he could start developing pickups for Warwick basses, and he analyzed the basses and came up with pickups that would bring out the best in a Warwick bass. We still offer Bartolinis and EMG pickups through the Custom Shop to be installed on your bass, but MEC is our standard and we believe that with them being designed for us to match our instruments, they are a good combination. MEC also manufactures the knbos you find on all Warwick basses.

i wasnt saying that the warwick's growl comes from the pickups at all, just that the MECs were made to enhance some of the growly frequencies

trust me, i'd rartehr have crap pickups and a good set of growly woods than good pickups and some basswood :wink:
