The One Thousand Questions Thread!

After reading for the 756th time the Warwick bass catalog, and after some drooling, these questions appeared:

- what are the PROs and CONs of the Streamer Stage 1 against the Streamer LX? I mean, talking about the tone

- the same question as before but regarding Thumb BO and Thumb NT

- the Thumb Dirty Blonde is more similar to the SS1 or the 'standard' Thumb?! Once again, talking about the tone

- how is the sound of the Streamer Jazzman and Streamer $$ compared to the Streamer Stage 1?

Not 1000 questions, but almost!! I'm sorry but I just had to satisfy my curiosity. As some of you might know, I am going to re-start to play bass, and my choice - and only choice - is a Warwick bass. My mind is on the superb Streamer Stage 1, since I'm a funk/groove man, but you never know!!

i can't really give you a fair argument regarding the streamer lx vs streamer stage 1, both are maple bodied basses which in turn i found out doesnt provide the warwick growl as much as the harder wooded bodies of the stage 2 or thumb, its unique and defined but it doesnt rumble the way i would have liked, infact the tone on my old warwick streamer lx bugged me so much that i had to get rid of her, she was so trebly and bright, which isnt my thing it broke my heart to get rid of her, but the bright twang may be suited to you, i myself prefer a darker tone to my basses something i get with my double $$ and get tonnnnnes of out of my '88 streamer.

you just got to try em out and see what you like! don't forget the body woods will play a huge part in the tones of the basses, thats what makes warwicks so damn good, theres something for everyone!

Dear lord, that Maple "Twang" was much deeper than my Corvette Std. Bubinga, and my streamer makes me happy. I guess everyone's different :?

If you've ever played a neck-through bass against a bolt-on, this answer will make sense; if not, go do that next chance you get.

The Stage One responds with a smoother, more balanced sound, and has sustain the LX can't match.

The Dirty Blonde doesn't sound anything like a Thumb Bass. At all. In fact, in my opinion, the frequencies that really sing on a Dirty Blonde are hardest to get out of a standard Thumb, and vice versa. The body shape is really the only similarity. At the British Music Fair, I spoke to quite a few guys that claimed to "hate" the way Warwicks sound, but like the way they feel. I had all of them play the Dirty Blonde Thumb, and each of them played it for like twenty minutes; they couldn't stop raving about it. It was almost obnoxious!

Here's how I'd sum it up:

Jazzman: Versatile. Crank the pickup selector all the way to the single coil and it can go from sounding like a Fender Jazz to... well, to a Warwick. Crank the knob over so it's all humbucker and it can sound like a Music Man or it can sound like an EB-3. Mix them together and play with the 3 band EQ, and the range is huge.

Double Buck: Not as versatile, but FRICKING ENORMOUS. No matter how you set the thing, it will eat your house with sound. It can sound like a Rush-era Wal bass, a Gibson Thunderbird, or like it's own badass self... the low end is ridiculous, but because it has the maple neck, it's a little less boomy than a Corvette $$.

Stage I: the combination of the maple body, maple neck-through, and single coil or soapbar pickups, makes the Stage One smooth no matter what you do to it. It's really hard to make a Stage One sound "ugly", whereas that's the Double Buck's specialty. It's like a crime to play a Stage One with a pick; the $$ practically begs for it.
