I don't know if any of you out there
in Warwick land have heard of this
film, but my girl and her aunt just got
home from seeing this, and she was
telling me about the movie, and how
she couldn't believe that our country
is so insensitive to such happenings in
the world.

I then went on to explain the politics
of the situation, and basically the truth
and reality of the subject.

I'm now being called a jerk for doing so.

So, I would like to take this time to declare
my utter and pure hatred for films like this.

I understand, and I have done my research
on the topic, in fact, I have a friend who was
born on his families missionary in Africa, so,
it's been explained to me from a first person
perspective as well.

My basic stance is that "It's no use crying
over spilled milk." and that is what is warranting
the cold shoulder I am receiving now.

Anyway, sorry to waste your time, just thought
I would put this out there, more-so a venting
session I guess, right?

Sorry, a therapist isn't in the current budget, and
this forum is free.

:D

Discuss amongst yourselves.

I've seen all of the IC movies and been a part of fundraisers. Some call America the world police. So if we stop being world police, then all those kids over there keep on dying and we keep doing nothing. It's a new holocaust. "Never again..." my ass...

I'm pretty passionate and I completely disagree with you. This is something that every other country should be addressing as well. There is plenty of injustice in the world. This isn't "crying over spilled milk," it's crying over the death of millions. I believe they're two different things. But beyond crying, it's doing something about it. To use your milk analogy, it's cleaning up the spilled milk, even if we weren't the ones that spilled it. If it doesn't get cleaned up it's going to rot and get worse.

Whoa whoa whoa, I never said I
was against it bro.

I said "What do you want the country
to do?"

This is in reference to the government.

The conversation my girl and I had
was about the US Government's
involvement in the situation at hand.

We all know the government has
their own agenda.

So, my "Crying over spilled milk"
analogy has to do with, what's the
use of complaining over something
you can't change?

Because no matter what you do, this
government will not change for you.

If you believe it will, then you should
retake History class.

Our current day government, is not
what the Framer's had in mind.

If you want to individually, participate
in all this, then my all means, go for it.

However, if you expect the government
to do any more than it's doing already,
you'll pass out from lack of oxygen.

That was my statement. I never said
anything against helping Africa.

The only thing I really said I was against
was the pity-fests.

I still believe that with enough support, the government has to take action. I've written letters to senators and the like. Just recently, there was legislation passed under GW that entailed economic sanctions and pressure on the governments in the Darfur Region/Sudan.

It's not much, but it's a start. Better to have tried than to have given up.

In what way do you think it is different?

In what way is it not!?

The constitution had been GREATLY taken
out of context.

As a gun user, I enjoy my amendment rights,
however, I also know that I'm not in a militia,
and therefor, shouldn't be able to bear arms.

It just goes on from there.

Hi,
I think it's great that there are people like "invisible children" trying to raise awareness.
I can't see where you have "a position" at all, you say

So, I would like to take this time to declare
my utter and pure hatred for films like this.

well, there you go!

But thats no position, that's being ignorant. I won't waste my time explaining it to you, cause you won't change your "position" or anything.

Condescending much?

You're right, you're better than me, why
even reply to me then?

Again, I'll explain myself... Ya know what,
no I won't, because if you didn't take time
to read anything in this thread, I'm just
wasting my time.

Have a good one! :D

The Chinese are heavily invested in Sudan oil....and don't give a rats *ss about human rights....The US, Canada and a several other countries are also oil invested in Sudan. Little will change quickly because the government in Sudan is a racist Arab (foreign) controlled oligarchy that, yes, you guessed it, doesn't give two sh*ts about human rights either. They just want profits. Again, greedy ruthless people. It is easier for the US, Canada and China to deal with these people because they are predictable and can be bought. Not true about the southern Sudanese who are tribal and much more supportive of their people, and thus, harder to control from outside the country.

The ONLY reason why anyone gives a damn about Sudan is because of the oil there. The ONLY reason why the US, Canada and, to a MUCH lesser extent, China will do anything about the rapes, killings and slavery happening there is because their people don't except it. People who speak out, and write letters and make movies may not be doing much....but something is better than nothing. It forces their governments to at least acknowledge the problem.

The situation in Sudan has been happening for more than a generation and is nothing new. But now the southerners in that country are getting organized and are using tactics of survival and retribution that the US has defined as terrorism. Although the northern government has been terrorizing the southern people for a long time. So the US and Canada have difficult decisions to make. Support 'terrorism' or support oil revenue from a fascist government that promotes slavery, murder and mass rape....sucky....

My pastor's wife is starting an Orphanage in Uganda. She just came back after getting the building, staff set up and the furniture needed.

We also are building a hospital there in the middle of the jungle to treat the white worm, malaria and AIDS which is very common there.

We were on Discovery channel the other day!!!

Our church has only about 100 members so this is not a mega church one but is focused in missions outside the US and into Africa.

the orphanage is on the works and its web page too. It is called "Remember Me Ministries".

I have not seen that movie Tyler talks about but I saw something about forgotten children. We are also supporting another missionary in Thailand who "purchases" the children their parents sell to people that make them get prostituted and adopts them, gives them education and teaches them a trade.

These forgotten children :D

+1!

See, this is the kind of stuff
these types of movies just
so happen to leave out of the
film.

Now, I haven't seen this particular
film, so I could be wrong, but
I'm guessing it depicted the same
ol' sob story that every film has
in the past.

No one ever wants to document
the good that we're doing for
another country, and they always
seem to leave out the political side
of it too.

It's not just as easy as these people
think it is, so many different variables
are involved, and as everyone knows,
the world is oil hungry, and that my
friends, is enough to sway the majority
this world's leaders into the thought
process that they have on the shoulders
as of right now.

That's awesome trujo!

When I was of the faith, I used to
attend Calvary Chapel of Merritt Island,
Florida, and they've been involved
with many ministries to Africa, and
other parts of the world as well.

I really like the fact that you guys
are working toward helping those
children sold into such horrid positions
as they are. I don't think I've ever
heard anyone say something they
were apart of is actually helping those
children.

Thanks.

On Thanksgiving day we have a service at 6AM and we collect a special Thanksgiving offering that we sent 100% to missions. This year we are starting to support a ministry in Zambia. We will be going into Zambia in May 2009!

I haven't seen the movie, etc etc and I can reply
only to what is in this forum thread. If the movie
is some sorta 'Goodie-two-shoes christian hand
wringing epic' in support of drop-in-the-bucket
missionary work .... IF that be the reality, then I
think somebody needs a new girlfriend.

OTOH, I hope no one here believes that just cuz
one movie [or more] needs a reality check does
NOT mean that the problem is not real, and much
bigger than the movie can possibly portray.

My suspicion about the movie are derived mainly
from the title, with it's focus on children. The old
reliable hook. The problem in which these children
exist are brutal for every person of every age.

As to the US government, and by extension the so
called news media in the US, yes these people are
invisible, swept under the rug with a racial broom.
But the rest of the world, including the comfortable
countries, is very aware.

The most effective first step Obama can take toward
correcting the american blindness is to both lead and
follow at the same time. He has to LEAD the people
into demanding that their representatives pressure
his own white house to FOLLOW the demands that
the people must make of their representatives.

That may sound convoluted, and the expalnation of
how it works would get very wordy if I wrote it out.
Look up up a quotation from Franklin Roosevelt that
IIRC is: "Yes I agree with you. Now go out and MAKE
ME DO IT." IOW americans need to see these huge
tragedies, injustices, and genocides NOT as "wrongs"
that "good people" would feel "obliged" to correct. If
americans only knew that this horrific tragic mess is
a huge, AND EXPONENTIALLY GROWING, threat to
their personal comfort and well being, then the "now
go out an make me do it" factor will work.

BTW, that "threat to their personal comfort and well
being" is NOT about "terrorists" penetrating the US
borders, as the lieing Bushie Tails prefer to present
the world. It's about shortages of everything and a
total lack of security throughout the world. TO GET
BACK TO MY OPENNING COMMENT ..... this is not a
job for missionaries. They have a totally misguided
agenda even tho they do kind-hearted actions. They
are not evil in disquise, they're just mired in a now
obsolete paradigm. Missionary work IS valuable but
it's pragmatic value is masked by it's MISSIONary
mission. Prostheletizing by deed beats doing it by
word, that remains true. And the side benefit is that
bellies get fed and such. But a larger way they can
impact the problem is as first hand reporters, for an
america that, so far, refuses to hear the message.

The human culture and species is quite globalized
now. While there may be 15 billion humans, there is
also one global human "thing" and I'll compare it to
one human body: If a human is healthy in many
ways, but 5%, or even just 1/10%, of him is very
unhealthy with cancer, that human body will most
definitely suffer agony and death unless treatment
for the cancer is performed IN TIME. So the global
human "thing", including people in the comfortable
lands, is doomed unless the cancer is cured in time.

And of course the percentages are very different
right now. The cancer is not at 1/10% or 5% of the
body. It's at between 20% and 30%. It's not that
it's becoming an emergency ..... it's loooong BEEN
an emergency, and emergencies do have a point of
no return.

Americans will demand that their representatives
pressure the white house to treat the cancer IF the
white house can teach them the truth that they can
grasp: The the global humanitarian crisis is not just
a moral outrage, but that it leads to $8 per gallon
prices at the pump and a parallel situation in the
grocery store, while your wages decline or you lose
your job in a time when there few opportunities for
a new job, and fewer every day.

Thaz how you do it, not by goodie-two-shoes hand
wringing morality-based missionary work. The BEST
thing that missionary work CAN accomplish, and it is
HUGE, is something that is not happening right now.
The BEST thing is not how many mouths you'll feed
at your missionary outpost. The BEST thing is that
the missionaries and other aid workers are actually
on the scene, so they can give first hand reports to
the american people thru MAJOR media outlests and
with PRAGMATIC explanations of how it affects the
comforts and well being of americans.

I tend to believe that this movie is prolly a perfect
example of a near total waste and misdirection of
the PRAGMATIC value of first hand reports.

I tend to agree with Tyler. And if anyone want to try
condescending to me, just write it out in longhand
and put it someplace dark and moist. Disagree with
me, but cop an attitude ? I already got one and I
don't need another.

Edit: I also mean no disrespect to you sir, as we are all entitled to our own opinion and I must respect yours. However, you clearly do not respect Tylers, which is absurd.

This is what I mean by there's always
two sides of a story.

I agree with golem 100% on his statement.

The movie is more-so directed at the plight
of child soldiers, and the regime taking over
(and in control) of Uganda than missionary
work.

(I hate saying missionary work, it sounds like
a sexual reference.)

Regardless, here's a link to the Wiki, which is
sparse to say the least.

I'm all for missionary work, (ugh) as I believe
good can come from it, however, I don't think
that it will be the cure for the problems that
plague our world. Stronger actions would need
to take place in order for that to happen.

I tend to shrug off statements like I got from
the misses last night, she just gets so involved
in movies like this, and forgets that film is a
way to tell stories, and yes Virginia, some if
not the majority of movies out today are made
in a way to pull and tug and eventually rip at
your emotions.

She tried explaining the film to me, but I didn't
want to hear it. I recall saying "I know all about
it, I watched Blood Diamond." Although that was
a light hearted chuckle at a serious subject, it
doesn't mean I'm not aware of the problems that
face our world today.

People seem to forget about the Surbs, and what
happened in that whole situation. My cousin was
there, he told me all kinds of horror stories as
to what was really going on, not just what
FauxNews was spewing out daily.

I've gotten off topic.

Regardless, I stand by my statement that, there
are to many variables to cure this epidemic that
easily, and it's something we all should work toward.
The question is, how many people really care to
actually put a plan in action? That's good and great
that we as civilians wish to put an end to this,
however, writing letters, and making films is about
all we can do, it's up to the guy in the three-piece,
sitting behind a desk, taking money from all kinds
of places he shouldn't. Because, that's who has
the power.
