The Heads Up Thread

REAL blow out prices on the biggest part of the Rockbass series at Thomann! 529,- EUR for a SS1 with racing stripes? Nice!!!

Thomann - Willkommen zu Hause!
I tried to order a white one with racing stripes but they won't ship to the U.S. due to CITES regulations. :( Only natural high polish is available in the U.S. I emailed them and received this response:

"Dear Rehan,

As shown on the website link you provided this bass contains a protected species of wood and we cannot deliver it to the U.S.because of this. I apologize for the inconvenience however this is a regulation from the European Commission and we are required to follow it.

Kind regards "

Does this mean the origin of the used wood is questionable and can't be certified by Warwick?

It seems so. If you ask me: that is the reason of that blow out sale. They get rid of this problem. As you can see in the offers the basses are not on stock yet at Thomann. Means Warwick cleans the stables. Imo.

Well now that you guys brought that up, I did a little research online. ;) It must be due to the new 2017 regulations for rosewood. I found this quote online:

"Manufacturers who currently have stockpiles of the newly regulated wood must document their inventory and apply for pre-convention certificates."

That quote was taken from the article linked below from Reverb.com, which I think explains it pretty well.

New CITES Regulations For All Rosewood Species

Well so much for a "green" climate neutral manufacturer then. LOL

Although, the quote is a general statement taken from an article on Reverb.com which is not specifically about Warwick. It reviews the new 2017 CITES regulations in general.:)

This is an extremely clean, monster of a bass!

Very, very tempting...

Paul, I think $5000 is realistic for it, when you factor in that regular Dolphin's from that time period go for 4-5k and this isn't a normal Dolphin at all!

It makes me want to go jam 'Jeremy' by Pearl Jam! :)

Didnt know they were considered to be so much more desirable as to fetch that kind of cash. Learn something every day

Oh yeah, they are ultra-rare. I've seen a few custom shops that are later models, but this might be the only boire-era 8-string Dolphin.

Hens teeth, unicorn....it's so rare, I'm shocked that Schlobodan doesn't own it! :D

If the neck is straight, that bass is in extremely stellar condition, especially for a 26 year old instrument!

Here's a 2012/2013 8-String:

That Dolphin has got me goosebumps. I think that I would have gotten it if it was with bartolinis.
And it has an 18V preamp. Wondering if it's a MEC...
And I would go to the US to get it. It would be cheaper to pay for a roundtrip than to pay the 30% taxes and freight on 5k$.

Except it isn't a thru-neck... it is BO surely?

I initially assumed it was BO, but the photo of the documentation shows NT. You probably would have to ask the seller since he did not include a photo of the back of the bass in his auction...
