Testing basses.

Hey, I dont know if this problem has been brought up here before..
I live in Norway, and as far as I know, there is as close as zero chance to be able to find a really expensive Warwick in a shop, atleast the Vampyre. The only ones I find is the lowest in the Vette category, or used thumbs..
I have been thinking about the CS Vampyre for a long time now, and its just getting clearer and clearer that I want it. I just have to get the cash I need for it now. :P hope it wont take too long.. :(
The problem is, that I have no real life experience of what this bass sounds like. The only thing Ive ever heard is from Seth's clips on youtube, and a few from Kevin. The sound is good as far as I can see, but my speakers is absolutelly horrible so i cant compare through those. And a bass for so much money should atleast be tested as the standard option, before ordering anything.
Is the only option for me now, to go to Germany or something to try one?
And is it possible to get to do that at a warwick headquarter, or do I just have to look in several shops?

Its kinda a wall of text here, sorry about that, and about my poor english (tired too now :P). Hope you bother reading it, and might have a tip or two. ;)
 
Hey man.

It's a pretty common problem........Since the Vampyre is indeed a very expensive bass, I would recommend to test it. But the question is indeed how ?? How about you contact the distributor in Norway and ask whether they have the bass in stock, or whether they know which shop in Norway ordered one. You can also call some Warwick dealers there and ask. I assumed when you mentioned that you only found Corvettes, that you've only checked the shops near where you live..............
Maybe you can do a holiday/bass testing trip to London and check out Basscentre ??

I'm pretty sure I have read here before that you are welcome to go to the shop in Germany, so I would imagine that they would allow you to play one. Especially if it were part of closing the deal on your cs bass. I think that would be so cool to actually go to warwick in person and hammer out all the details for a cs bass. That's the kind of thing dreams are made of.

I'm sure greg or someone could tell you for sure and possible get ya the necessary contact info.

You can visit the factory,try out all of the showroom models & even pick out the wood for your CS bass.You cant buy it direct from the factory,but you can visit & try out the basses.When you decide what model & what CS options you want,you then order it through a dealer.
Another option would be to visit the distributor for Norway.

The factory thing is the thing for me I guess. I have been in contact with the dealers etc here in Norway but they dont really take in that bass as far as I can see, cause its too expensive, and they cant afford sitting with one in stock. If I drive to my nearest shop, which is one hour away, they would have maybe 4-5 basses in the pricerange in about 300-400 usd. And if I drive for 3-4 hours, I would find basses to hmm, maybe 1-1500usd.
But I guess im gonna go to Warwick myself to see everything "live".
Guess its alott easier to see what type of wood I would like too. (Although im quite sure of all the specs allready.)

Where do you live/hvor bor du?

I have a 5-string Vampyre, not a CS, but Left-handed though. It`s not easy to get an impression trying it the wrong way, but if I`m ever nearby, I could swing in and let you have a go at it.

I live in Kragerø, Telemark. Dont kidnap me now :P Hehe, I guess you are all good guys.
Its a small town at by the sea. You've probable heard of it.
But, next year Im gonna move, and I wont be living there anymore. I guess im gonna be living nearby Bergen or something.
 
Sometimes a representative of a distributor will bring a bass to a local shop for yo9u to try and take it back to the distributor's next visit. That happens a lot.

An other option: Maybe you can find bass players in your home country with a bass which comes close to what you want. As you can see on this forum, bass players are nice people and always willling to help other bass players.
