Because of the relatively high current needed for feeding electronics I decided to add a battery box (gotoh, 14 EURO) in the rockbass. I had to remove wood areas in the electronic compartment.

At the end a good solution for convenient  change of batteries / NiMH is realized.

It tooks about two hours to fit the gotoh-part into the bass. I did ´not yet complete the shielding paint.

Do anyone of you know where to get graphite paint?
Besides I did not hear any hum but however a good shielding is always recommended.

(I wonder why the rockbass is not delivered with a batt box like mine :( )

Hey,

it would be nice if you could place a picture as well; I'm curious about the wood removing part. Oh, I have no idea where you can get graphite paint............. 8)

Hi again,

here is a link that explains it all: I am a computer noob, and even I figured it out in a couple of minutes. :D Nevertheless, if you don't understand something, ask me.

Cheers. :D

HI THIRDTHUMB,

the foto shows the batt box in my rockbass. If you are curious about wood work I highly recommend to consult a guitar specialist near by, cause the remaining thickness of wood is only a few mm, and if your are too busy your bass will have unwanted "exhaust slits".

Otherwise you need a regular tool for removing parts of the wood (electric machine can be used). As you can see on the foto, the compartment is located nearly at the same position as the batt before. But you need more space and therefore you have to shift the electronic module into the left corner, i.e. it is a little bit sophisticated to arrange all parts under the cover.

Before closing the cover you have to sold the wires from the batt box to the old 9V-battery-adpated which is no longer used (and can be cut). Instead of a regualr battery I use a 9V-NiMH-akku with a capacity of 160 mAh. That will do a good job.

Do not hesitate to contact me in the case of any questions.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy,

fabulous idea; I can't believe I've never heard anyone else do this before........I understand now why you needed to remove some wood. Just in case you didn't know: Warwicks have a similar looking cover, but they are not fixed with screws; instead, you have two plastic tabs that you can undo with your fingernails to open it and have access to the battery. Ah well, thanks for posting the picture. :D

Hi ThirdthumB,

Here you see more details. The GOTOH-Box is fixed with glue to the cover. Look at the bright parts of the wood. This is where I removed wood carefully  . So far I did not hear hum at our last gig so I do not feel the need for additional shielding.

Apropos: The change of the energy source takes less than 7 seconds :D

Cheerio
