i want to know do you play with three fingers or two?
and if you play with three, tell me do you play with three from the moment when you got bass or you have been practicing for that?
 
I play with 4 fingers on my left hand and 5 fingers on my right hand.

Always been this way.. It came naturally
 
how can you play with 5 fingers?
i seems imposible for me...i cant play with three fingers...
 
Started with the index finger only on both hands. Now it's 4 on the left and 3 + thumb on the right.


But there's potential to build on that:
 
I think he means 5 including the thumb! Obviously not in a finger-picking sense ie-Thumb,index,middle,ring,pinky.

:D :D That's a real bass hand dude, just some genetic manipulation and off you go :shock:
 
4 on my left hand although I could use my thumb as well, I just haven't found a situation where it is necessary. I am currently using a pick (2 fingers :wink: ) Being a guitar player I am able to play a lot faster using a pick. I am working on my finger picking though. I have decided to go with three fingers on the right hand plus my thumb, it feels more natural since I play this way on an acoustic guitar.
 
I tend to use all 5 of my digits on my fret hand. I will use my thumb to reach over and fret the low B when I play a 5 string sometimes if I wan moving around crazy fast and need to do other things quickly. For my picking hand, I use two fingers, I cant get used to 3, but I know I will be able to play faster with 3.
 
Of course I mean the thumb aswell. That's a finger right? ;)

I don't use my pinky that often but If I need it I play with it.
Mostly pluck with it tho..
 
i think i play fast enough with my two finger on my right hand (i use 4 on my left), and i cant get used to three fingers on my right hand
 
I use everything from 1 to 3 fingers. Using one for fast picking is more reliable, but 2 adds more smoothnes. 3 is when I`m going Cannibal Corpse/Kataklysm-style. Never practiced it, it just pops in naturally.
 
i mainly use 2 fingers to pluck the strings, i find a even number just works for most playing. however when playing triplets i swap over to 3 fingers, i can fire them off quicker than mr harris!!!
there is a guy a saw playing metal a few weeks ago who did use all of his hand to pluck. he was playing domination by pantera. if you know the song then you'll know the 5 notes fired out on the verses. he would play that riff with all of his fingers. starting with the pinky and ending with the thumb, in a very cool sweep motion!!!
been tryin it, but my pinky is so much smaller than my other fingers... :(
but when did jaco stanley or bootsy ever need more than 2. jamerson did it with one finger!!!! the man is a legend!!!!!
ever tried playing motown lines with just one finger???

Four (started with two), all except the thumb, unless you count slapping which I don't do much anyway.
 
fretting hand (left) - 4
right hand - 2-3 depending on the style...

I used three from the start... once I get them all moving smoothly, it might actually sound good!
 
Thumb & first two fingers for slap. Two fingers for finger style...
 
Four on the fretboard, two on the other side. Originally I started playing with three fingers on my right hand, but I could never get an even tone when playing straight eighths. Then I saw an instructional video by John Patitucci and I realized that speed is not a question of the number of fingers used, but rather a question of patience and practice. The things he did with just two fingers were so goddamn fast I just couldn't believe it.

Now I'm happily blasting away with two fingers, and rarely have a problem with keeping up with the rest my band. And our tempos are usually between 180-230 bpm. And no, I don't play only quarter notes. :)

It's a question of what seems the most natural way to any given player. The rest is just a matter of practicing, IMHO.
 
4 on the left hand... and 3 on the right. Normally I only use too, but sometimes that third finger comes in handy.
