Try this one. D'Andrea Lemon Oil. Jay cloth ( the blue & white striped ones ) Put 2-3 dabs on the cloth & lightly rub over fretboard & leave for 30 mins. Rub each fret using the Jay cloth & watch the grime lift from the frets. It just floats off ! Burnish with a soft cloth for mirror frets! No abrasive steel wool ! & a slick fretboard.

PS: Wipe the neck with the oiled Jaycloth as well, It smooths the lamms.
 
Ditto on that. Lemon oil is the one thing that I can put on any of my basses (albeit in moderation) without worry and it works like a charm.
 
I did use Lemon oil in my Thumb and it did clean the frets. I do not know that other product you describe as Jaycloth

JayCloth is a disposable cloth made by Vileda. I keep meaning to look for some here but keep forgetting. Imagina a paper towel you could use to really buff up your axe after a thorough wax job! They are, of course, more expensive than paper towels, but still real cheap.
 
A very good description of 'Jayccloth' Doog ! Vileda should hire you for marketing :lol: They are one of lifes overlooked wonders.
 
I see you're in the UK which is prolly why I'm familiar with them, I don't recall ever seeing them in the US, which is a serious bummer. Great stuff.
 
The clothes have two sides as well. One really soft, one more rough (like, paper rough). I always have a roll stashed away. It's like milk, or bog roll, always keep a backup!
 
Since you say bog roll I'm guessing you're in the UK as well. You know I wish they made uncoated Swiffer cloths. Though I can see why they don't. They're made to pick up dust not buff up recently waxed Warwick basses.

Just wish we had a decent disposable buffing cloth here.

I've just spent 2 hours trying to load camera software on my laptop that is running Vista, so I can put pictures of a piece of rag on this forum! I hate Bill Gates. I'm going for a drink, to make my headache worse :x
 
OK, Solution. To Doog & Trujo777, If you really can't get these cloths & have surfed the net with no joy & really want them, I'll send you some.

I think I saw them at the Dollar Store like 3 for 1 dollar. Thanks for the tip.

so are they safe to do polishing too?
or just cleaning?

Personnally, I don't use them for waxing, I have a Warwick cloth and that's all good. But for cleaning frets, I wouldn't hesitate. I use them for pretty much anything but I feel they need to be 'wet'.
 
Going back to my origional post, don't forget the lemon oil to dampen the cloth. I can only recommend the D'Andrea stuff, cos thats what I used.

Like I said, the tarnish lifted off the frets, like a floating film, so don't forget that the lemon oil probably was the most important element.
 
I just used lemon oil and a dremel with a felt buffing wheel attached. Once I got it all set up, it was the fastest fret polish I've ever done...
