do i need to use tapered strings for my thumb Bo. Like if the string (mostly worried about lower strings) and resting in between the saddles will it ely affect the sound. Just wondering cause ive yet to change the factory shipped strings (im poor) except a g i broke. Dont wanna throw away money on some strings to find that they wont correctly fit. Should i watch out of the length too... i know that the neck on my warwick is much longer then my other basses (at least it feels that way). Thanks.

Most tapered strings up to .135 will fit but if it's a bit tight you can use some flat pliers to squeeze it in.Be very careful when you remove strings from the tail piece,it's easy to take chips out of the wood just behind the tail piece from the brass loops at the end of the strings.I pull them up rather than back to try to avoid damage.You can file your tail piece,unscrew it first though & use & small flat or rat tail file & go slow,the plating you file off can be touched up with some black paint,it's brass underneath so it wont rust.There's a new Warwick tail piece out that takes some non tapered strings,each slot is 4 mm instead of 3.5mm or something like that.

If your bass was built in 2006 or later, there's a possibility that you don't need to use tapered strings on it. The new tailpiece we developed will hold most brands of non tapered strings.
