I've been wondering if any other users have a problem with sweat cutting out their basses? Couple of Aussie bands I'm into seem to have issues...

Went to a Cog gig recently where Luke's sweat appeared to short out the electronics in his thumb nt4, so he swapped to a SS1 for the rest of the gig....which also died to the same problem in the last song...he's now made a guttering system outta gaffa tape to drain it away...the dude gets so into it he's dripping after the first tune!!

Nick from Mammal also had same issue the other night. He's even used a sealant all around his pickups to cut out the gap, but it still got into the pickups by the look....

i sweat a lot ... back when i was training in Jeet Kune Do, i can make small puddles wherever i stand *lol* so when i play bass, i also sweat a lot, but not to that extent!!!

man ... im glad i dont have that problem... im thinking thats why kerry king wore those tennis wrist bands ... maybe its used to stop the sweat from getting into the pickups. i use to think it was a thrash metal fashion accessory, but i was 16 then *lol*

I wipe my hands after every song. Could be O.C.D., could be me being overprotective of my bass.

I wash my hands before I touch my bass, and I don't jump around enough to sweat to an extent that I'm going to leak onto my bass.

If I did, I guess I'd wear a couple of black wrist bands to soak up the sweat like tennis players do...

;)

Yeah, I can vouch for that, I was playing last night and jumping around like a loon so much that the sweat was making my eyes sting. Yeah, get some wrist bands, I'm never without them these days. Also wristbands make you look more metal :D

Its not for me guys...but i'll pass the suggestions of sweat bands on. I was interested to see if its been a problem for others, or if perhaps they have other issues with their bass and its not actually sweat.

your friend gotta sweat like hell if he short cut his pre. Man, I do not seat a lot normally, but I think the wrist band is a good idea. Also, a simple towel to wipe your hands after each song could do the job also.

This works,but is pretty messy.
Spray your cavity with WD-40.

Yeh this dudes in one of the biggest rock bands in australia (its hot here remember!), and just pumps it over every night. Bass gets whiped down with towel most gaps between songs. He's now made a guttering system on his bass with bits of tape so the sweat runs down the bass instead of down the gaps...haha

If it's gettin in thru the pickups, maybe a smear of wax around the bottom, wear the housing clips together might do the trick.I dont think Aussies sweat any more than anyone,it's just we're so hot & funky.
 I just gotta brain wave,ya know those things that cut & seal plastic bags?ya could seal the pups in them.Kinda like a raincoat fer bass.

Dirk Lance, formerly of Incubus, used to have the same exact problem. He somehow got Warwick to create a solution for him, but I'm not sure what they did. It may be worth giving Warwick Artist Relations a call and see what it is they did for him.

+1 on the wax idea, or you just could apply some of the window isolating stuff
