The aftermarket Bartolini preamp in my bass is shot(dead/shortcircuited), according to my (great) tech.

Do any of you have recommendations for a new one? Four knobs available, can stack bass/treble mid/mid(freq).
This bass benefits from a warm preamp I think. Doesn't have to be neutral sounding.
I'd like to have a mid control, to tune in the mids since it's a fretless.

On my SSII, EMG with MEC 3 BAND(factory), sounds great, you know I try many pre, emg, SD, Bartolini, OPB, I like barolini and MEC 3 BAND, but for streamer, you can put any preamp and pickups still sounds great, they are streamer, I tried TM Steven Pro 2 days ago, looks like other cheap korea bass but sounds like Warwick.

My SSI has OPB with barto pus, sounds great, you can try too, but OPB is very not fit my Thumb 6, too bass and less treble.

OPB & Bartolini has useful mid freq., MEC should learn about it.

Thanks very much for the reply. Will look more into the bartolinis tonight. I have to choose before tomorrow when I call the luthier.

I have this in my frtless infinity - it is nice:)

I had the whole Steve Bailey set on my SSII - it was a good preamp but I wasn't floored. The 30Hz was a little too low for my tastes on the 5-string version, the mid control was a little boxy (could have been the bass though) and the treble was slightly edgy (again, could have been the bass). It was much better than the 2-band stock EQ, however.

I love a good Glockenklang preamp - there are 4-knob versions for the 2 and 3 band things.

The SB preamp looks very much like my STC-3a preamp. If you didn't check on there, you should be able to dial in what is boosted and cut with the push/pull knob from two internal controls.

this is how I got mine in the infinity I simply replaced the STC-3p (useles slap contour on a fl) with a STC-3psb (2 minute job:-))

Just for info I went with a new Bartolini 3-band preamp. I figured it may suit the Bartolini pickups very well :) The wait for this was unfortunately 3-4 weeks. I'll post an update when it's installed.
