stupid f#cking JAN

it FELL OFF! and worse of all, its gone, i can't find it! would i have this problem with a brass nut?
 
i have to replace a nut as well. what is the best choice for replacement between JANI ands JANIII?
 
It seems most people prefer the brass JAN I, but the JAN III is supposed to be sonically better and it's easier to adjust because you don't have to loosen the strings to adjust it.

I've had Dana B. Goods send me JAN III's for free to fit on all my Warwicks.

man you look pissed tonight, the JAN then the strings, yeah it sucks.

Now, I don't think you need to buy another JAN, just try to find this one and glue it back, simply as this. But if you really want a brass nut, beware that the saddles ain't fitted really solid on some. They rattle a little.

Plus you have to move your trussrod cover back about 1mm or so to get the nut to fit snug. Very easy mod though :) And definantly worth it!
 
I like the JAN3, and it is easy to replace. You can order a spare one, to have always with you.

sorry, i meant the just-a-nut. i'm gonna pop the one off my streamer today and use my backup backup at school for the rest of the week until i get a new one

Same here.

As far as nuts, I have all 3. If the bass came w/ a JAN I, thats what I use. If it came with a JAN II, I would replace it with a JAN III personally...
 
Another point to make for all Warwick users, it is better to change the strings one at a time instead of taking them all off at the same time.

Of course you do have to remove them all together if you are doing some major cleaning, so in that case, don't forget that the JAN3 has the nut part separate from the base, so it's may be best to remove that as well before you start cleaning.

The problem with the JAN2 is that the little side tabs that try to hold the nut to the base can easily snap off when all the strings are off...

So Andrew, was yours a JAN2 or JAN3, and did the nut and base both come off, or just the top part of the JAN? Surely it's got to be somewhere nearby where you were working on your bass...
 
I posted a fairly detailed thread on going from JAN II to JAN I - it's in the Tips forum. Rattling saddles in my experience are the result of raising them too high - it's better to shim the nut. I used the carcass of the old JAN II, filed to size. Works fine, and the finished result looks great :)
 
I really like the brass JAN. Looks sharp,easy to adjust, and doesn't fall apart.
 
Dana B goods pissed me off, i was asking how i could buy one, they said go to your dealer, GC is a pain in the ass...thus no brass nut for me, luckily, i got another JAN3 on the way...

Same thing happened to me with my STD4. Snap crackle and pop, it was on the floor ( I was able to find it ). Very same thoughts, never again anything else, than brass NUT.

Well my dealer sent me JANIII for free ( glued back that JANII for the time I needed to wait new one ) and I must say, that I've been satisfied with it. It still won't make the fact go away, that next bass I'll order, will come with JANI

With JANIII you must be carefull not to lost it also :) But you can just put it back, if it drops, nothing went permanently broken.
 
Same thing happened to me - just fell on the floor, luckily I found it again and am just more careful when changing strings now. :D
 
i dont understand how it can simply "fall" off. i mean the strings tension would hold them on right? :?
 
Was it the "stupid fecking" JAN's fault, or simply the guy that lost it?

Seriously - the JAN is great, and it's really not that difficult to be a little careful when changing strings.
