Well no wonder Koreans are so damn good at piano (not trying to insult Koreans)
I'd be scared if my bass teacher was like that

Are they really pitch harmonics? sounded more like an effect than pinch harmonics to me....anyway awesome video! thanks for sharing :)

Edit: just saw the second vid you posted :) thanks again!

yea they're pinch

but they're coupled with effects
and the distortion brings them out

I cant think of a more useless technique than this.
Sorry Kyle, but that's one day you'll never get back.
For the record,I've loved Doug's playing for over 20 years. The guy's an absolute legendary player, but he's Doug Wimbish. He's expected to play with 20 effects pedals & use all kinds of crazy tricks.
Do yourself a favour & check out Doug playing in one of his bands,as well as his solo work.
;)

My thoughts exactly, but I don't speak 'em like I think 'em like Greg does. Kyle, don't fall for the fancy stuff. Pinch harmonics and polyrhythms... meh.

Yah I know. I think I've had this lecture before at least three times ha.

But it is fun to do, I mean I don't put this stuff in songs. Not that I play
electric bass a whole much now. I play mainly upright.

I can't do pinched harmonics like Doug, I stick to the Jaco style... but awesome vid, BTW!

The main thing I hear is a whammy set to +2 octaves :) Makes me want to buy one, shame the good ones are so expensive...

plus one
I have a Whammy around here to play with :-)

Ebay guys, that's how I got all my B Stock gear, basses and ect, including a Whammy... Just wish it was a Bass Whammy, but it's all cool, my boss octave pedal can make up for it.

Speaking of the Whammy, can anyone every get the dive bomb to work for you? Maybe I need to not go down as much or it just won't work for bass.

Sounds like his whammy pedal + 1 octave. He does some stuff where it looks like his middle finger is following his index a la pinched harmonic but I think it's his weird fast "picking" by rubbing the pads of his finger - see for an explanation or the start of:

Excuse the background noise.

He plays the guts of a solo piece in here called Swirl which uses some pinching.

That was 2 minutes of my life I'll never get back...

i have a flanger...

tits on a bull,in other words ;)
I bought a flanger many moons ago,& it would've had to have been THE most useless effect I have ever come across. Not a single useful tone could be had out that pile o' junk.
