Stu Zender sound from an SS2

NVM the Dirk Lance question, seems I picked up on it. Must have just been lazy before.

However I am also a fan of the sound Stu from Jamiroquai gets on Space Cowboy. I think he used an SS1. Any help on how I could get my SS2 to sound a little more like that would be great, thanks!

Bassist Stuart Zender does not appear on the album version of the song "Space Cowboy", but does appear on the single version, and the "Stoned Again Mix". Zender's explanation of the events which led to his non-appearance on the title track refer to a situation that occurred during the last stages of the album recording. Jay Kay informed Zender that he wanted to record a new version of the title track (the single version had already been recorded and released). However Zender had scheduled some time off to patch up his relationship with model Milla Jovovich. Kay gave his blessing to take the time off, but when Zender returned he found that Kay had recruited a session bassist, known only as "Mr X", to play on the song. Mr X is credited on the liner notes.

So, probably no Wick on that track, if you're talking 'bout the album version.

Light(er) guage strings, neck pickup only, bump the lows, add a heap of compression

Thanks guys! I use 40 gauge for my bass anyway so looks like I just need some compression and my neck pickup. Cheers!

In reply of the original question; replace all body and neckwood with maple and get a p-style pickup for the neck position, in other words, the SSI sounds totally different from the SSII so if you really want the Stu Zender sounds from EOPE and ROTSC get a SSI !
