Strings on Fretless Corvette RockBass

Hi everyone, this is my first post here.

I am the happy owner of a 5 string fretless Corvette RockBass, old production. Does anybody know which strings my bass was equipped of ?

Hi Maurizio.
Your bass was fitted with Warwick Red label roundwound strings.

Greg was kind enough to let me add something, hihi:

- the gauge is 45 - 135

I suppose they're Warwick Black Label, aren't they ? Are they long or medium scale ?
 
Thanks for the reply, Greg; yet this is what I found, as I was trying to get some information about Warwick strings

Black Label (Long Scale)

Handmade stainless steel roundwound strings. Very precise intonation with a full, brilliant tone. Warwick basses get strung with Black Label strings.

Does this only refer to the newer production ?
 
True, but you have a Rockbass, not a Warwick. Rockbasses have Red label, Medium on them.

Warwick RED Strings, computer designed, stainless steel:​

4-string: .045" .065" .085" .105" (42200M)
5-string: .045" .065" .085" .105" .135 (42200M plus 42135 TC single string)​
Attention!!!​
If the string gauge is thicker than .125” we strongly recommend using tapered core strings. Otherwise the string won’t fit in the
ball end holder. Warwick RED strings stainless steel with tapered core are available as single strings with .130” gauge (42130​
TC) or .135” gauge (42135 TC).
 
Thanks a lot, Greg. Only problem seems to be that I cannot find these strings anywhere on the web in Italy ! Have you got any idea where I can buy them in Europe ?

I'll try again; so far, my search has been usuccessful, as no shop I kow has them in stock. Thanks, anyway.
 
Red labels are not tapered, only black, yellow and EMP.
 
I dont understand why you're wanting a tapered B string Maurizio.
The B string is tapered to fit in the Warwick 2 piece bridge, which is also fitted to new Rockbasses. This is why the Rockbass manual advices their use.
Your Rockbasses 1 piece bridge will have no problems with a non tapered B :)
 
I've noticed tapered B strings have better intonation and better sustain than non tapered.
 
I also have a Corvette Rockbass fretless, I just bought it from Thomann, but it was built in 2003 (I would think that selling an 11 year old product as new might be a bit dodgy legally, but I´m satisfied with the instrument). However, I bought a set of D'addario Halfrounds 45-130 along with the bass, and the 130 B-string did´nt fit through the bridge! This seems really strange as Warwick claim to install 135 B-strings on all Rockbasses, I compared the two B-strings, and the D'addario is much thicker, how is this possible?

On a sidenote, the Halfrounds lasted a week, and then the factory installed Red Labels where back on, very nice strings, stainless steel by the look of the winding.
