Strings..okay I already read the previous threads...not answered...

Hey folks.

Got my bubbavette standard 5 last year used for a good price and sold my Fender Jazz V to offset the cost because I'll never play another bass...well except the fretless Godin A5 which I use for some material...nothing like a fretless for tone....

Anyway, my question is this....I just found out Warwick specs TAPERED strings?

Which is why my .135 B and the E isn't fitting properly in the bridge..there's about 8 mm poking out. Looks like s***

I have no idea where to buy "warwick strings"...I've always run XL or Rotosound *(back in the day on my Ricky)

Anyone got ideas on suitable alternatives...fender, XL .D'As....for five strings with a .135 B????

(Yes I read the sticky thread and it was informative but doesn't deal with this issue..)

Hoping for some help here because I love this puppy and already lust to upgrade the pickups to active MECs from passive....

Hi Hammerman,

I was using Elixir taperwound, and Warwick EMP. I used non tapered strings, they are OK too, just they need a little bridge adjustment

Hey thanks for the help folks...

I've always found picking out strings is a bit being the proverbial kid in the candy store...I wish it were actually easier to hear and feel the difference between strings...

I mean, we all know what a round wound vs flat wound feels and sounds like - heck I used to play with black nylon wound way way back when until I went for a cleaner, crisper sound as my signature.

Between that, though, there's a world to choose from, half wound, bronze...compression wound.....its almost worth a thread in itself.

Maybe there already is one?

Haha, yes it is I think you chose a trusted brand, like Warwick, DR, Elixir, etc. Then you chose if you want nickel or stainless steel... Then you better look for coated strings, because they last A LOT.

Then you decide to a set of stings, buy two gauges to take the final decision. After you take that decision never look back, and start your sound from that choice of strings...
