strings for LX4

I am wondering what in your experience (LX4 owners) are some great 45- gauge string sets..

I really like a modern rockish tone from bands such as RATM and TOOL, but I also like to do big dubby stuff (i don't want the quick decay flatwound sound... i just like to roll off the tone and get a smooth tone).

I got my Streamer LX not to long ago through one of the most fortunate deals of my life! :d Unfortunately it came equipped with these dinky GHS boomers... it must be lightest gauge they offer.

I might just order a pack of EMP's, unless persuaded to look elsewhere. 8:

I have had a good run with DR black beauties (its a red LX with black HW so it looks the part) but they have also given a really nice growl and made the most of the almost light distortion sort of sound that the P-pup gives you. They last a while and i am starting to like them a lot. When i got it had an OLD set of warwick blacks which were Ok but too old to compare.

So i say DR BB's -45-105 get my walrus of approval on an LX (its like a seal of approval but fatter, and with tusks)
 
you know.. I haven't tried Roto's yet. I really do want to some day, I'm just scared of their supposed life span... I've heard 6-10 hours of freshness.
 
I don't go by time, but I can say even when they start to dull, they are still brighter than most new strings I've played.
 
I`ll throw in the Red Labels... Nice bottom, good growl... well, the highs are a matter of taste, but you can always roll them off a bit so they don`t get to zingy ... and they are affordable! And the roughness is no point for me, treat them with Fast Fret, it`ll help.
Or the Boomers in nice strength, they are good strings.

From your description I think Elixirs will fit nicely. I love EMP-s but they are more on the modern side. DR are great strings too.
 
+1 to the Rotosounds... Just strung all my Warwicks with those (Swing Bass 66 mediums), and they sound amazing. Have had them on for a few weeks through a few rehearsales and a couple of shows, and no degradation of sound yet, at least none that I can notice.
 
I had a loooooong run with roto swings on my Jazzman 5 while in a metal band. They snarl, cut through down-tuned chuggachugga guitard noise and are pretty bright. However they are pretty rough on your fingers (which i never minded, but noticed whan i swapped them out). One thing i noticed was that instead of a slow decrease in sound quality rotos would just die on me. they lasted a pretty long time but whn they went they would just go. The rest of the band would notice even from one weekly rehearsal to the next.
Now my rotos have been replaced with daddario slowwounds (i wanted a more mellow tone now that i have my LX for the making of the ROCK!)

And my DR coats are finnaly utterly spent. No harmonics or bite left and they need to go. But i bought them in March so pretty good value and a great run. They will be replaced with more DR BB's.
 
i'm currently using ernie balls and i'm happy with them(local stores thats all they stock)but dr's are good to and i like dean markley blue steels to.i tried ghs boomers and i don't like them.
 
I have DR Sunbeams on right now. Theyre ok, remind me of Warwick Yellow Labels, but a little on the bendy,less stiff side. I'm not much of a string bender, it always sounds plain wrong when I do it.Next time I'll try the Fatbeams. I think they're nickel hex core.
The EMP's are excellent, if you like bright, course, stiff, scooped steel strings that last longer than your woman will be pregnant. Seriously! I can use them for months, take them off, use something else, then put them back on for several months more. They just dont die.

Sorry if i slightly hijack thread, but are EMP's really scooped? I love the sound and the feel and the tension! are there any strings that have the same qualities such as feel and tension, but have less scoop?

It's only a very slight scoop. It's not like your mids arent there with EMP's.
Also remember, they might not sound scooped to you, like they do to me.
They really do sound great, if you're into steel strings. I dunno if it's just me, but they sound growly as well, almost piano like. Well worth trying out, even if you're a nickel man.
