i usually use 50 guage strings (the ropes ). the only company that makes them is D'addario. I like them, but i really like coated strings cause they last really long. WHY DOESN"T WARWICK MAKE EMP STRINGS IN .50!?!??! i don't like DR cause they don't last, i broke them in a week, i was pissed (im never paying $45 for strings again!)

We are smarter than them. Our 45. sets have G and D normal for a better slap sound and more musical sound for upper registries, and A E and B- "ropes" Check the gauges for all the individual strings ;-)

I purchased some Hartke bass strings off eBay they came as a pack of four sets and worked out at £4 (approx 6euro or $8 ) per set. Trick was that I purchased the 5 string sets (gave the B strings away to a friend) because the rest of the set was 110-50. They aren't the best strings ever produced but TBH you can change them as regular as you like if they only cost £4!

few people just "break 45's" you might want to check to see if you play excessivly hard, have anything on the bridge that could be damaging the strings etc.

having 50s instead of 45s shouldnt turn your strings from "always breaking" to "never breaking"...

If you have a sharp edge on your bridge saddle you will break strings! You need to use an old g string and rub it long ways over the saddle a few times (like a file), and that will dull any sharp edge. My thumb used to break strings all the time till I did that fix. Hasnt broken one in 10 years!

I dont really think .50's are the answer.

How the hell did you broke DR's man. I used these strings since my beginning and hell they survived every types of tuning (playing B flat with a 5 strings the B on the E string, and playing C flat with the C on the B string) with excessively hard playing. They are simply unbreakable. And they usually have a longer life than d'Addario :?

I think you should definitively look down at your technique. You must be hitting your string very hard to get the string to bounce on the fingerboard. So lowering action might help.

that may be it. i dig in alot, and play slap and pop alot, and that always broke the .45s. .50s did solve the problem. i may try some cheap 45s one more time, but i would prefer if warwick would make .50s in the EMPS, any of their strings.

I don't know where you're from , but when checking for ex Thomann.de site, I could find other .50 set manufacturers:

It appears, that DR and Daddario seems to have, more than others, options for .50's. Anyway there's Rotosounds, Dean Markleys, Ernie Balls, GHS, Fender and Optima.

Some of those seem to have set from 50, 70, 95 and 115 .... so rather heavy. I have used Rotosounds my self, RS66LE's. I do like them a lot. I don't do slapping that much, but sometimes yes and based on that experience those should fit also for slapping. Price is also rather low 17,30€ per set, so not that expensive...

I haven't managed to break those and in my opinion they do age gently.

Ok then it make things more difficult Sure they'll deliver stuff also to US, but at the moment it's not wise order stuff from Europe to US, because of money rates. Actually they will do it tax free ( I checked ), but you may ran into trouble with customs, if you aren't about to pay taxes

I've been using Rotosounds for a long time and never been disappointed... They're bit ruff for frets, but I like the way they sound. It's pretty similar to Daddrio, in my opinion, but bit more warmly. This I know cause I did tried many labels long time ago and I ended up with Rotosound. Allthough nowdays it's very difficult to find dealer(s) whom are selling them and that's why I've planned to try next time GHS'es, cause I was told, that those are also hard strings. Almost every dealer appears to sell those... But as you were looking for .50 set(s).....

Flea uses GHS boomers ( never been using anything else , so they can't be bad :shock:
