Comparison video of basses I'm currently own. LX5 2003 has Bartolini 59S72 pickups and NTMB preamp installed. Recorded with Digidesign M-box, ART MP-1, line-in. Tell me what do you think. Which one do you like most?

Hey Simon, great comparison. I like them all! Also it's one of the rare occasions we get to hear a Katana. It has a very interesting growl and I think I can hear the neck pickup being positioned pretty close to the neck. Other than that you also showcase passive vs active pickups on the Streamers very nicely. Great stuff, keep 'em coming.

I'm really liking the sound of that Katana. Like Yanni said, it has a really cool growling tone to it, which I really enjoy.
Between the two Streamers I think I like the 08. I seems to be a little warmer, and tighter on the bottom end. The Bartolinis seem a bit on the hollow and cold side to me.

I really like the Katana on it's own but I think the fatter and more focused tone of the 08 Streamer fits a little better in the mix.

I'm with them. They all sound good but I'm digging that '08 streamer tone.

Amazing clip! I like the Bartolini Streamer best, and found the Streamer 08 too much compressed in the tone. The Katana is interesting, I like the lows but not the highs so much.

Thanx, men! That's really interesting to read your replies!
Basses were recorded in the same conditions with the equal D'addario nickel strings installed.
About the Streamers. They sound quite different acoustically! The character of my 2003 Streamer plugged "line in" is really close to it's actual acoustical sound. It has a 'bone' tone comparing to 2008 Streamer. I suppose that's because of finish - 2003 is colored, 2008 has natural finish. That 'cold tone' is not the electronics thing, for sure. It is 'SUB ZERO BASS'))
I love them both and thinking of installing Bartolini electronics into 2008 one.
Katana is a different thing. That's a wonderful bass, but it seems too aggressive to me.

nice clip !!! I think I like aggressive bass sounds !! Alone I prefer the sound of your katana over the 2 others, and the 2008 streamer and over the 2003 streamer. your 2008 is close to the Katana to me, but the katana has somemething more in the bottom and the mids, a nice deepness character and nice high mids especcially in the slides... I find your 2003 has less bottom, but the mids and high feels nice. Maybe because of the Barts too. Both the Katana and 2008 fits well in the mix to me, but overall I can't decide which fits the best. both have a great bassy bottom. The Katana has certain deepness and aggressivness that the 2008 doesn't have. And the 2008 has a nice roundess in the bass...

Thanks for sharing I think it's the first time I hear a Katana... I'll look at u-tube for more katana clips !! :)

Nice demo, well done!

And thanx for sharing it, we don´t get to hear a Katana along with other ´wicks everyday.

I'm really liking the 2003 with the Barts myself. Has a very nice tone to it. The Katana would definitely have its place but the 2003 would be my choice. The 2008 does sound a bit too compressed or squashed for my liking. WOuldn't turn it down if it were put in my hands mind you but it's my least favorite of the three.

Many thanks to you, guys! I do appreciate your feedback!
I had to sold one of these fine basses, and that was... Katana.
The last thing I could do before selling was to record a quick video:
