Hello! I decided to show up my beloved Streamer LX with upgraded preamp.
Tell me what do you think :)

Thanks, guys! This bass inspires me. Perfect playability and amazing timbre. BEC III preamp makes the right job. It pumps up the sound! I recommend it as a replacement for BEC II. The difference is noticeable. For sure!
 
hey Simon, Nice demo and playing !! Your LX sounds very fine !!
I did put a MEC 3 band in my LX 4 too, I must say that I really prefer the way the treble control is set on the 3 bands comparing to the 2 band MEC. However I find the mid control to be very shy, and almost useless with the LX (probably cause of the sound of the bass from the start), in fact I don't use it at all... I'M interrested to see what's your opinion, may be it's more usefull on a five string ??
 
Thanks, JPMorin! Actually I don't change the EQ during recording, I'm fully satisfied with the result above. I like change of a signal after BEC III preamp being involved. BEC II seems quite poor to me, boosting highs and cutting lows. It sounds noisy... As for high shelf control, I feel the same. Useless on BEC II, versatile on BEC III. Changing EQ settings is needed in live situations, I think. Quick and easy. Mid control is ok, especially when I need to bring up 'Sound of wood', some body color. And treble control on BEC III helps my strings to appear fresh as long as possible ;-)
It had been Bartolini NTMB preamp installed when I bought this LX. I found it very nice to place NTMB to Katana NT5 and BEC III to LX. As it should be :-)

And another thing interesting thing. BEC II preamps on Vette 2006, Thumb 2003 are the same, but the one in Streamer LX 2008 is different. It is like Aguillar, absolutely natural if no eq bands changed...

I agree with you, IMo the BEC III add something nice to the sound. Plus you can control the output when engaged with the trimpot inside. This is a nice feature in a preamp : when boosting/cutting some frequencies, you can preset the eq at a output level equivalent to bypass !!

I think your right : I had a '09 corvette active and the eq was effectively very transparent, almost like bypass... And I remember I have noticed that the 2 band eq was not as transparent on my '98 LX4 before switching the pre to the 3 bands... I thought that was may be the different tone from both basses, and also the volume pot was broken on the LX when I got it, but a change in preamp version would make sense too, they can be improved or changed without notice !! :)

I've watched your last video with your band last night. You have a nice thight groovy band !!
 
Right thoughts, bro! I found that tiny trim pot very useful. Always set it up to make output levels of both modes equal. That's very handy ;-)

Thank you! I keep practicing, double thumb technique and tapping are my goals for undefined time period from now ;)
