Streamer 88 Truss Rod problem

Hi All

My 88 Streamer used to have extreme low action, which I like a lot.
The truss rod (an old one, going in the wrong direction) is still working, but I can not get the neck as straight as I would love to anymore... !?!
I can loosen the nut completely, take it off, everything looks ok, but when I tighten it again, I seem to run out of thread before the neck is as straight as I want it to be.. the action is still too high.
I know all about bridge adjustment and so, but its really the neck that is still not straight enough.
Mind you: its not unplayable, but I could set the action TOO low in the past, and I can not do this anymore..
If I try to tighten it more, I am afraid something will break.

Is it possible that the complete truss rod has moved and is too deep in the neck now?
What other possibilities are there?
 
take it out check the rod

clean and lubricate with silicon grease

put it not in too deep (it is normal that it has about 1cm room for manouver)

if this has no effect you might replace the rod but this is most probably not the reason that you cannot set the action very low
the construction allows only litte corrections.

As soft measure is to keep the bass in humid conditions for a while (no is the perfect time to store it in the cellar:) while having maximum trussrod tension.
In this condition necks tend to get a back bow.
 
I can only figure the rod is too deep... but I cant get it out.. seems to be jammed..
Of course I am afraid to use too much force..

there are a lot of threads about this situation including a special rod puller
 
I succeeded in pulling out the truss rod.
My trick (maybe done before):
I cut in half an old E string, pulled it through the hole in the nut, so the ball of the string is blocked in the nut and the rest of the string goes through the hole of the nut. I screwed the nut back in place and carefully pulled the truss rod out by pulling the string with some pincers.
The thread on the truss rod is effectively a mess.. so I need to order a new one.
This one is alloy, but the Warwick site only offers old iron ones..
Are any alloys available anywhere? Or is iron just as good?

iron should be fine

Aluminum is not available

the added weight is ditstributed over the neck so you will not notice a huge difference
