Streamer '87 Precision pickup problem

Hi all,

I created this post to tell you about a problem with my Streamer '87 recently acquired.

the problem is that Precision PU is not positioned correctly, they are not sufficiently spaced from each other and
the E and G string sound less than the two others...

I'm really disappointed to find such defect in a WW. :((

I tried to make some adjustments but the problem persists ...
 
Might be a defective PU here , Shav0 , just swap it or them to new ones , problem solved .

Have you checked for the wiring also .
 
I check everything ... I can not swap them, the length of wires does not allow.
 
I think that Sprocket is suggesting that you unsolder the (potentially) defective pup and replace it with the one from the newer bass. I'm unsure what you mean by incorrectly positioned as there are thousands of identical Streamer basses with the pups in the same position and they are OK! It is unusual for the outer edges of a pup to be defective when the inner strings aren't... not saying that it can't happen but unusual. Have you tried adjusting the screws on the outside to raise it and lower the inner ones to balance the sound?
 
I think the PUs were wrongly installed with time , it s a 87 , so someone , somewhere might have done something wrong in there .
 
From what I see the only difference is that the pickups are closer.
Now... - the E, and G strings are proper positioned.
One issue could be the A and D strings, so the lower pickup to pick some signal from the A string and vice versa. I seriously doubt this is the case, and you can easily check this. Take a screwdriver and tap on the pickup, and see where the coil begins, because it should not go to the edge. Maybe the top and bottom pickups were switched... Check with the screwdriver where the pickups are sensitive, and see what you can do.
I am 100% sure that even in 87, no Warwick left our factory with a defect like this. HP Wilfer himself was working in the production at that time.

- Have you tried with a different set of strings?
- Have you set the action for the strings correctly?
 
Yes, I tried 2 sets of strings, different settings, I tapped with a screwdriver and the coil does not go very far, however it seems that the pickup on D&G position have a coil that sounds louder serious side, it could restore to E...but I'll need to extend the length of wires.
 
Some news ...

I have inverted the pickups, is a little better but the E and G strings are on the end of the coil.

I will finaly change the pickups for Crel (french made ​​PUs) with the coil shifted outwards:
