Straplok System

I have an older Thumb 4 BO and he has got this straplok sytem. Now I have problems when other people wants to play my thumb (and there are still a lot who wants that :) ) They have to use my strap setup and often they don't like it. The shadow - side of this straplok system is that you cannot use any other strap with the bass.

For all who don't know what I'm talking about : In the bass are two holes and at the strap are two pins that looks a liitle like phone jacks. This pins are fixed in a permanet way (It needs tools to change the strap setup)

Is there an adapter available that I can plug in the bass and I can use any strap I want without straplok ?

Or do you have an other idea that helps me ?
 
and to partially hijack this post....my bleached blonde has the straplok pegs, but I never got the other half of the connector (the strap half). where can I get this?
 
I don't think that there is any adapter.
You could buy a couple of straplocks, so you can use just the male end on one or more alternative straps.

Otherwise I'm afraid you'll have to change the entire system with a strap button
 
i used to just put my strap over the post and the strap lock pegs into the holes, so that the strap could be removed easily

haha it works really well for practise and jsut jamming then when you play the show just throw the strap on like its supposed to be on the system and your golden

Heck no - I am going to gig with it like that!!! I have had luck using a strap ( I have forgotten mine on occasion) without strap locks, the posts seem to work okay. This will make it safer still.
 
haha yea i have forgotten my locks before too and i just barrowed a strap and threw them on the posts. you have to be a little more careful if you dont have the locks, but the posts do work amazingly well
 
Yes with a posts at my thumb I will have no problem....
But I have an older straplok system as you can see in the pictures below:



The only way to use my thumb is with the straplok and if I miss my strap I will have a big problem.

Yes thats the only thing that will solve my problem as you can see on the center picture.

Are the newer and the older straplok sytems at warwicks compatible ?

if I want to replace my strap lok with one of the newe ones with what for a material shall I refill the holes ?

Try to find the same wood used for the bass.

There is a very economic solution.

Take a couple of toothpicks and break them in little pieces.
Mix them with some liquid glue and fill the holes.

When the glue will dry, you'll be done.
 
I would check with Oliver first, but you may be able to drill through the bottom of the existing strap lock holes that are in the bass, and then insert a long wood screw, installing the new ones on top of the old ones with out having to remove them. It may even leave the old ones functional if you choose to remove the new ones? Leaving the bass "stock" ( I like to leave things as original as possible or at least make it easy to undo modifications).

Just an idea.....
 
Yes thats an option. The screw must be longer than the original and I have to watch that the new straplok is screwed strong to the bass to eliminate any jiggling of the straplok

What about using anchor fittings or using nuts with wood winding outside and metric winding inside and fixing the straplok with a metric screw.
