Straplock accident

Stanley Clarke has a great solution for a secure strap,he screws his strap directly onto the bass with a big wood screw,simple.

He's not jumping around the stage that much though, so no reason to mutilate a bass like that. Specially those Alembics of his.

I know one particular Alembic of his was built with no strap holes drilled for this reason.Check it out,
 
I've never had a problem... but I agree with what Lorner said - keep it in the back of your mind... check all your nuts and screws are tight (oo'er) and I also have a re-assuring press against the mechanism when I put the strap on... just to check everything's securely in place (don't press the release button, though...)

it's just an Alembic..................not a Warwick. 8) :lol:
 
Hmm... should I be worried about this when I get my Vampyre? I don't really jump around a lot, but while I need both hands to make adjustments to my loop station or something I sometimes move my bass around behind my back. After hearing about this I'm not sure I'll take that risk anymore :shock:
 
I'm confused, has any1 achully had a problem with the recessed locks, or are they reliable, i have them on my 1999 streamer stage 1. They've never caused me any promblems but i look at the tiny ball bearings holding the hol mechanism and im not sure i trust them.

I trust the locks myself but the screw was coming out on mine. The ball bearings were fine...

My mistake. Missed the recessed part. I am looking at going to recessed myself if my last screw fix fails...
 
dw, the reccessed locks are the biz, luk so gd!!! Im not sure bout the other end thts attached 2 my achual strap but they are 8 yrs old, and ive not ever had a problem, i've had basses fall wen not on strap locks, luckly never a warwick. And infact up until i had warwick all my basses were very lite, this ment that if 1 fell i cud just catch it with my left hand and keep playing. My friend has destroyed a jazzmaster (US) and a 72 custom tele due to lack of strap locks, ud think he'd learn.
 
The thing with strap locks is you really need to make certain they're properly engaged & that you dont disengage one accidently while your jumping around. :)
