Hi everybody,
Here are some questions
- What are the main differences between the older model (before 1998) of Streamer Stage II and the new one?
-Which one is 'better' in your opinion or what you have heard about it?
-The pricing of the older model and what to pay attention on when buying it?
-Could you send me some photos of the older one?
-What about the EMG pick ups of the older one in comparison to MECs of the new model?
...and so on.
I really don't have a clue and I have the oportunity to buy a 1990 model these days. I live in Croatia which is rather small country so I don't have many oportunities to come upon such a guitar very often so be quick please.

The biggest difference is the neck volute...it was only added in 1997. I prefer the old necks.

I have a 2004 SSII, and I am very happy with it.
The older ones had Wenge neck new ones have ovankol
JAN I nut (brass) new ones have JAN II or 3 made of composite
Older streamers have Brass bridge, newer ones are made of a lighter material.
I guess but I am not shure, the neck profile was a little bit different.
Beeing different neck, bridge, etc, they will feel and sound somehow different, but just your personal taste will say wich one is better for you.

If you buy a second hand one, you should pay atention at :
1- electronics, - eveything is working properly. No hiss, the pots are not making noise, pickups are both working, etc.
2- frets
3- neck - check if has no cracks, and is not twisted.
4- hardware. check the screws if they are not destroyed.
5- trussrod - try to adjust a little, check if the trussrod nut is not destroyed, check if you can adjust the TR easily, check if somenthing is happening if you turn 1/8 turn.
6- body - check for cracks, dings or dents.

The price for a second one is pretty much the same for pre or post /97.

Most importantly,

make sure it's got a "W" on the headstock, and not something that starts with an "S"..............(get it ??) :lol:

HAHA! :D

You know, I've played at least a couple dozen Sp*ct*rs and none of them really did much for me untill I played the one that I own. I don't know what it is about this one but the tone is right up there with my Warwicks. But, I am considering trading it for another Warwick. :twisted:

As good as my Sp*ct*r sounds, sometimes when I play it....I feel like I've just cheated on my girlfriend.........is that normal?

I know that the english word for "the derriere" is automatically sensored........ :lol:

But bashing up other brands just for the sake of it is immature IMO. Opinions is another deal. /Pat
 
the older ones also have embedded straplocks. the newer models do not.

note the differences in wood, etc.
 
but they're both SSIIs so they're both going to be exceptional instruments

I don't know about that... The price for a second hand one is pretty much the same.
