Spirit of Turpentine?

Anyone ever used spirit of turpentine to clean a natural oil finish? I was looking through Jerzy Drozd's guide and he talks about using spirit of turps to clean any untreated or natural oil finish. Anyone got any experience of it?

Heard of it,but would'nt do it in a fit.

I'm no scientician but I have a sneaking suspicion the turps can be used to strip wax off of wood for re-finnishing. Don't take this as gospel but if you use turpentine on a waxed timber you might have to re-seal it with liquid wax again and probably bugger the finish.
