Sound Check...1, 2, 3.

Good Day,

I'm currently recording several new songs and I have been listening to the sound quality of my old songs and it seems like they have a muffled sound. I'm trying to produce the best sound quality I can using the tools I have. My request is this:

Please check out my MySpace page, listen to the 3 tracks and give me your input as to the sound quality.... is the bass to loud or too quite, are the backing tracks too loud or too quite. You get the idea, all feedback is welcome.

This is not an attempt to boost my profile views but a genuine request for audiophile feedback in order to create the best sounding tracks I can.

well, first of all, the sound is really good. But here's some feedback anyway. I have pretty much zero experience in recording skills by the way.......
It seems as if the percussion is recorded directly, because it sounds crystal clear. But indeed, the bass sounds a bit muffled, especially compared to the percussion. Is it possible to record the percussion part indirectly via something like a BASS POD with amp/cab/mic simulator ?? Would that give a more balanced sound ?? The sound of the bass is great: very mwahhhh midrangy. But maybe I would like the sound even better if it had a bit more low end, say in the range of 50-80 Hz or so ?? You have a very open sound with no double bass drums and guitars with distortion, so you should be able to hear these subtle low frequencies well. Hey, a fretless midrangy sound is great, but it's a bass after all. I think adding some extra low will give the bass more balls.......I think. Oh, I listened to the tracks with a decent 500 Euro ear loudspeakers. Well, hope this helps a bit. Cheers. :D
 
I really like the way they are... i listen music through some very cheap speakers, but sometimes they show more truth than a studio audition equipment...

and in the end, I think YOUR way is the best way... just like playing music, the tone is about what you hear in your head. We already live in a world of "presets"... jaco preset, M Miller preset, etc... and I tend to think that going boldly in your own direction may worth more than otherwise...

I typically am not a fan of fretless "mwahh", but your tone caught my ear. The tone was good, and the mix allowed the bass to be the main focus without being over the top.
 
Thanks guys for the critiques and the compliments. I think I'm going to tweak the sound ever so slightly just to clean it up so it matches the clear percussion. I'm using a LightSnake through my EBS MicroBass preamp and the LightSnake seems to muddy it just a bit. You guys are right, I don't want the bass overpowering the rest of the tracks and I want to maintain MY tone.
Just some minor adjustments with the treble and bass might be enough.

I suggest you check out my Recording Bass Tutorials on the Audio forum. I will be covering mixing soon, I just need to finish up some things first.
 
If I recorded that Adrian,I'd be very happy with myself.You get some great fretless tones in all of those tracks,you've done well imo.
