So, two weeks ago, I quit my job. I wont go into details, but suffice it to say, I was extremely unhappy there.

Now, I do have money saved up to enjoy some time off. But I am looking at stuff around the home I can sell to really simplify my life and get more cash in my pocket. one area I know I can do that is in my instruments. I have many I do not play regularly, but I am contemplating just unloading most of them and getting back to basics with my basses.

I guess a part of me wants to get the money in my pocket, but a part of me does not want to part with them. I guess I am looking for others feelings, what they would do, etc. Im to weak to make this decision on my own :((
 
You need to decide:

Do you...

a: Want the money - a quick cash fix?

b: Really want to simplify your life and get back to basics with your basses?

In my experience, 'a:' is a BAD reason to sell stuff (unless it's truly your last resort), and 'b:' is a good reason to sell gear if you're really genuine about it.

I do have a couple basses that just sit and do not get played.

On the o ther hand, I am always spending money, so now it might be a good time to get some of that money back in my pocket.
 
As long as you don't sell your main workhorse, do what you feel. Life is short, enjoy it :-)
 
Take your time to decide. You can always sell your basses & gear pretty quickly. Maybe you could see about trading some for ones you've always wanted. Don't be too hasty and regret selling one you'll miss later. Best of luck in the job search(if you still need to work)
 
Well how many Basses do you have ?
I had,up until Januray 2011, 8 Basses. 1 1965 vingate Epiphone EB232, 2 Gibson Les Paul Money Basses LTD Editions and 5 Warwicks, all 4 strings. Way too many. So I sold the Epiphone [ which I purchased used in 1977 ] and one of the Les Paul Money Basses. I have no regreats. I'm now trying to sell the other Gibson and one or 2 of my Warwicks which would leave me with 4 Warwicks basses. IMHO 5 Basses is plenty. Remember, you can only play 1 at a time. I usually take 2 basses to a gig. Yeah, you'll probably feel bad when you sell them, but like I said, you can only play 1 at a time. So my suggestion would be to sell them and keep 2 basses. That's just MHO. Also, keep in mind that the market is tight and people don't seem to want to spend their money
 
I see it like this:
Basses there will always be more of about. You only have one life, and you shouldn't have to regret things. Especially since you recently married (?) you should do what is best for your family.

I have sold all basses I don't use, and I couldn't be happier. Will probably sell my wick when I get my Unicornbass back from refin and modifications.

It felt liberating to sell the basses I didn't use or needed, very much so.

Maybe keeping 2 and selling the rest is a good idea but as you said, Now is not the time to sell. The market seems down for everything. I can almost guarantee that anything you sell now will be worth way more as we pull out of the so-called recession.
 
Keep an eye on the for sale section, I decided to unload a few basses I dont use anymore, including a 4 string LTD Corvette.......be ready :-D
