Hi,

I noticed something recently... a weird chorus-like effect coming from my Warwicks. I don't know why I never noticed it before but I was playing my two jazz basses for quite a while, got used to the sound they made and then when I switched back to the Warwicks I noticed it.

I'm ruling out anything structural since all three do it. It must be some strange harmonic that's doubling the string sound or it's the strings themselves. My Warwicks are the only ones strung with Elixirs, all the others are D'Addarios. Even if I very consciously very mute the other strings and play just the one string it sounds like there is a light chorus effect to the sound. It sounds hollow is the best way I can describe it.

Any ideas?

Has anything changed in your setup? New/different amp / pedal / instrument cable ?

Does it happen with the preamp both on and off ?

Is there any new electrical device in the room or house that could cause interference ?

Nothing new. Only does it with the Warwicks too, which is why I suspect it's the strings.

Preamp: genuinely didn't know there was a pushpull 😬 I'll have to try it.

No new devices. And again, it's only the Warwicks.

Trussrod, strings or bridge. Something mechanical anyway.
It can't be the truss rod or bridge. All three basses would be broken if that were the case. While not impossible it's highly unlikely.

However I took off the Elixirs on my Corvette and put on Ernie Balls and hey presto, problem solved. Now it sounds thick and growly the way it should.

Edit: Not sure how to mark a thread as solved...

Hola amigos,

You know that I’ve been using ELIXIR strings for a long while and when I first read the title I knew what was the thread about because that happened to me with a set of nickel .045-.105 Elixirs on my Streamer LX.

To be honest, at first I thought the trussrod was broken or something like that. A little scary, isn’t it? I even thought my hearing was playing tricks on me. Good to know I wasn’t hearing crazy things. 😅
Anyway, just like @esseff, Idiscovered the issue were the strings (And totally forgot to tell you about it).

What puzzles me now is the fact it happened with just one set on the LX, but never (so far) on the Infinity.

Does ELIXIR knows an this issue?? I think we should let them know.
