Our band is sharing rehearsal room with 2 other bands and I'm suspecting all bass players are using my amp to practice on :evil:

Does anyone know if there are gadgets with which you can lock the input or mains socket?

Not offhand, but you could take the amp fuse with you when you leave if it has one and is easy to get out.
 
That would show them when they get there w/ no amp and yours doesn't work...
 
Yepp, I'd like to see their faces....

Just came back from practicing and it happened again. Tone controls all over the place. Took me ages to get back in tune. Bastardos! :evil:

Think I'll get me one of those PJB Briefcases. But are those enough for practising with a loud rock band?
 
That's just plain wrong!

The briefcase is a great little amp and great for small gigs, but it isn't quite loud enough to be heard over a drummer. At least, not with the cabinet it comes in. I don't know how that would change if you hooked up another cab... That might help it cut through. You might also want to check out the Ampeg Portabass too... It's pretty small too, and has more power.
 
Markbass amps are very light - I've got a 12" combo (14kgs) for practice/rehearsals - then add a 15" extension speaker for gigs - they are very loud and powerful! Some would say a bit "hi-fi" in sound (which suits me) - so try before you buy.

The combo on its own is loud enough for rehearsals with drum kit and two Marshall stacks!
 
i am so thankful that we can practice in the garage of our drummer. It seriously freaked me out when i saw how the other bassists at the bandcontest played over my Pro tube IX...it always clipped and distorted :cry:
 
i have made it a general rule NOT to let others use my rig... never.

last time i did i was playing with the headline artist... the guy before me has gone out with his sh*tty pedal rack... one of them started crapping itself and literally making the amp/cab scream with all kinds of static.

needless to say by the time i got on to play the rig sounded terrible

NEVER AGAIN! :D

A bit off topic but I saw something fun today as I visited the local dealer.

A guy purchased a Markbass SA 450, placed it in a thin plastic bag (supermarket style), threw it over the shoulder and walked out, just as if he bought a loaf of bread and some bananas :shock: :shock: :shock: .

Those weigh nothing....
 
That's just wrong. I don't even know why anyone would use an amp to practice with that they don't play with. I did that for a while, and when it came show time, I didn't recognize the tones I was getting without messing with the EQ.

Maybe you could take off all the knobs if you can't get to the fuse??!? Oh man.....what a pain in the ass. Them's fighting terms if you ask me. Go buy a Fender and beat them with it.

Good point... you don't want to be making drastic alterations to your eq when you're just about to start a gig!

Battering the villain with a Fender... now that's a good idea!
