Hi,

Just recently i have noticed on my SS1 that i am starting to get a bit of wear and tear below the G string on the wood.. Its not noticable from distance... and you would only see it if you was looking for it... but as its my most used.. it is starting to annoy me slightly :? So i was just wondering if any of you guys knew a way of getting the wood back to its old self?

On natural oil finish, sanding and refinishing, but depending on the wear you can only make it less evident, not fix it.

On laquered/painted refinishing and in this case a perfect result is more easily achieved, but it is more complicated to do.
 
Heh... I dunno... I sort of look at natural wear-and-tear as a badge of pride. If you're wearing away the finish, that means your fingers have been abusing the surface of the bass when you play, and even if you re-finish it, it's just going to happen AGAIN because of the way you play. Why fix it if you're going to keep doing it the same way?
 
I dunno... i do see it as a sign of good use... I couldnt even think about sanding my Bass... id be scared of anything going wrong lol.. i suppose the best i can do is keep that part of the body well waxed i suppose to stop any impurities getting in to the wood grain.. But thanks for your replies :)
 
Of course I offered solutions... doesn't mean that I would apply them :P
 
Yea it is much appreciated :) but i couldnt bring myself to do it lol the SS1 has such a soft wood.. so this wear is bound to happen... i was just thinking maybe there is a way to stop it happening as much... because its my style that does it... and thats not going to change any time soon :D
 
This reminds me of Victor Wootens main bass... Below the g string is quite a bit of wear from him doing the double thumping... I think wear/tear gives it mojo :)
 
I had this problem on My ssII, and I've refinished that area.... very easy job to do.

But I did it just because it was a second hand instrument and those were not my marks :-) I will not do it again :-)
 
I have the same on my SS1. Not obvious at all. Only if you look close enough. Thought about a refinish but mine has a thin satin lacquer and sanding down the complete bass just for the wear is a NoNo for me.

Yea i can't bring myself to touch the body on this bass.. as it holds alot of sentimental value to me. When my nan died about 4 years ago, i was given Inherency by her... and she told me that i had to buy myself a bass and one that would last me for aslong as i play.. Hence i bought a Warwick.. As im sure they will last a life time.. And i was so lucky to find my SS1. Another Guitar shop went bust... so the shop i went in to had bought all the guitars/basses from that shop, and they were selling them off and if i remember i picked it up for about £1300 or around that... but as it was from another shop they had no details on it except the fact it was the stage one... But im pretty sure it has the AAA top.. :? lol

Not really :-) People really freak out when their posts are edited, and they are right do to that. I never use that feature. Almost never... :-)
 
ohh but think of all the fun you could have :) im sure I could buy some biscuits for my cold coffee and watch Seinfeld to learn that bass part!! :wink:

Sounds it. The remedy is Scones and some Earl Grey. Maybe play some rugby, and youll back to your old english self.

My old Rugby coach was Welsh and he was always picking on the English. It made me chuckle.
 
The only real reason to edit a post is if it contains information that could harm the company or the mood of the forum in any way. And when I say this, I don't mean criticizing the products, but rather doing it in a uncomfortable way for us.

I have no idea what happened to your post, maybe you were drunk or something like that, that's always what would happen in my part of the world.
