Who here actually sings and plays and how do you get on with it, how did you go about multi tasking? What tips do you recommend?
 
First you have to be able to play the song blindly, without thinking too much about it.
If your technique does not allow you to, your bass playing technique needs more work.

With hard to learn songs (some bass lines are hard to do together with the vocals), print out the lyrics and underline the syllables where your important bass notes (accents, or those that go with the bass or snare drum) go.
Sing from one underlined syllable on to the next while concentrating on the bass. You will be able to do the song in no time (and that's a promise).

Once you can do the song, start focusing more on the singing because that's what people will listen to most. a bass fckup often goes unnoticed but a vocals one doesn't ever.

I'm thinking of trying it with No Excuses by Alice In Chains. Great bassline, but also the vocals do actually lock in with it, which I didn't realise until closer inspection.
 
Nice choice, it beats one of your other covers - breaking the law (man I just never liked Priest or Rob Halford much). My old band used to the title track from the Dirt album. That one is quite easy to play on bass and sing.
 
I sing backup in my band, mainly screaming, yelling, and growling though, LOL.

My advice, know the songs bass line, inside and out. Keep your foot moving for timing, learn to 'fret-play' with your left hand so you can cup the mic with your right to get that little bit of fx on sick growls. ;)
 
I hate breaking the law. It just so happens that I'm in a band full of priest lovers. The problem with that is song is it's just gay!

I don't sing much, until recently I haven't found much I can sing along to. But I'm going to try and work on it so should I need to find another band, or form another band, I don't need to get involved with a singer.
