Should I pull the trigger?

So here's the story. I have my new Warwick since the beginning of this year, a Streamer LX. For some strange reason (perhaps because Warwicks rule?) I find myself searching around for used Warwicks, having in mind a bass with a MM pickup in the bridge position. I want to live with it and see how the humbugger (Golem-ese here) works out in different contexts. So my targets would include Corvette and Streamers with $$/Jazzman configurations, with a preference for a cheap 'vette since I already have a Streamer and well, it would be cheap.

Now I 've been coming across some used 'vette $$ bolt-ons that aren't exactly cheap, and a couple of nice FNA Corvettes that were kinda cheap but I didn't like very much. Then, I came across this:



It goes for 1000 euros. The owner says it has been used very little. I don't know year of constuction yet. The seller mentioned he would not ship abroad, but I asked anyway and guess what, he's coming to Greece next week! (Talk about destiny) So there will not be any shipping charges, we 'll meet and I get the bass for this price. From what I understand these things go for 1800-2000 euros new, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Should I pull the trigger on this one? Looks like a brilliant investment, if I decide to get it and don't like it I think I could sell it and lose very little. It's clearly a beautiful instrument, with a honey violin finish which is pretty much the only colour I like besides natural. I should ask for more pictures, and especially the headstock for the serial number so I can identify it. Honestly, I thought there might be a catch on this one, it looks too good to be true.

Problem is, I already have a fine Streamer LX I enjoy, actually I wish I had the time and energy to play more. Part of me considers a new purchase kind of a consumerism behaviour (I know most of you with massive GAS problems would disagree with this, and call it plain Warwick luv). What do you think of this offer? I have to decide soon, he 'll be here in a few days. I'm really undecided here. How do I decide? What the hell do I do?????? :D
 
I don't think it's an investment, but you won't lose anything on it.

Buy it if you want it, not to make money then you won't be disappointed.
 
you say you won't lose much if you sell it right after you buy it.. maybe you will end up selling your LX ;)
seems like a good investment to me...
 
you won't lose money on it if you decide to sell it so there isn't a problem much.

yup, you need to have both the LX and the Jazzman for a side by side comparison, in order to find out which suites your tonal goal better ;)
 
I think you need to buy it :-) I agree with Bambi, if you decide to sell later... well, maybe you'll sell the LX :-)

It was the beginning of a very long
bad habit, which I do not intend to
kick during this lifetime.

Come to remembrancing of it now,
I bought TWO basses at that show.
You're discogitasting only just ONE
bass .... so I'd say it's prolly quite
safe to hump on it.

I'n not familiar with a LX so what is the difference between the streamer jazzman (?) he is looking at buying and the LX? They are very similar are they not?
 
My current bass is:
Streamer LX 5-string
body: 2 pieces maple body (bass/treble sides)
J/J pickup configuration
2-band eq
Maple neck
32" medium scale

This one will be:
Streamer Jazzman 5-string
body: swamp ash back/flamed maple front (sandwich construction)
MM/J pickup configuration
3-band eq
ovangkol neck
34" long scale

So they will be pretty different.

thanks for the comparison. Yes I think they will be different enough to BUY the new one and KEEP BOTH!!! LOL....
 
Yesterday I asked the guy for some more pictures and the serial number. I will probably have these later today. I am really curious to see/learn more. He's coming here on MONDAY and I'm still kind of undecided. Oh well... :roll:

Do you hafta commit before the guy'll bring the bass to Greece?
 
He's coming on Monday by car from Italy, then to Piraeus and off to Rhodes (greek island), I suspect for some vacation. We are supposed to meet at the port before he leaves and do the transaction. So yes, I guess it is obvious I should commit so that he does not carry a bass with him all this way. Problem is, I asked for some photos and he hasn't answered yet, he said I would have them by friday. I wrote again yesterday night and still no response, up to this evening. Oh well...:roll:

to recite it aloud, and all the lettering
was of a uniform appearance, with no
special emphasis indicated. Helvetica
bold, all caps as I recall .....

I bought two FLs that day, so maybe
I was trying to repair myself of some
doubley dubious state of mind ?

Unfortunately I didn't have any more communication with the guy. I asked him for a few photos and the serial number but he hasn't responded. He should be in Greece right now, enjoying his vacations. I don't think it was a scam since the ad mentioned meet and pickup, so the buyer would be able to check everything. Perhaps he 'll contact me in a few days. Let's see.
 
I'm in the same boat with a sansamp DI. I figure if it doesn't happen it is in my favor for some reason or another.
