Should I get It? Please Help

I have seen a Pre-owned Red Warwick FNA jazzman 5 string in a guitar shop for £799. Here is a picture of exactly what its like but this is a 4 string ( )

I had a quick shot of it and to be honest it didn't sound great however I am aware the guy in the shop gave me an ashdown amp to play it on but it more than likely had poor settings on the amp and i did not want to fiddle about with the amp setting in a shop and the string sounded like they desperately needed changed as they sound very dull and you could see by looking at it there was dirt and dust up the neck on the strings.

I am into playing death metal and one of my fav players erlend caspersen (blood red throne, vile, deeds of flesh, the allseeingi ) plays this bass alot but his in a clear varnish stain not red and it sounds totally great on his recordings.

I also do the good old pop n slap from time to time as well.

Am i an idiot if i dont go buy this bass at that price? seen as it would orignally be about £1500 new.

I'd go back, explain that your really interested in the bass and ask if they can swap the strings for you, and play it through an amp with the setting set flat. Then buy the bass if you like it.

Its a pretty damn good price, and strings can be switched out, but if you don't like it when you play it(ignore others who play it) then don't get it save your cash for a bass you will like.

That all said if i saw a jazzman at that price i'd probably jump on it.

if you don´t like the sound, don´t buy it. it´s that simple.if you have the feeling that it´s all about the amp, then try it with another amp.

or ask them to change the strings. but when it´s the "right one", you´ll feel it did you like the bass when you played it without an amp?

the fna jazzman usually is a great bass in my eyes even the best build bolt on bass....
