Hi Everyone,

I've a left-handed Corvette Standard, 5-string Bubinga bass. I haven't played it for years, but started playing recently and decided to change my strings. Took the G string off and to my horror, one of the nut supports broke off!:(

After close inspection I noticed that it was actually broken before I bought it and seemed to have been glued on by someone in the factory!:(

It's out of warranty and I don't know how I can get it fixed. Any suggestions!

Can't really see much from your pic but this could have happened in the shop/ store if you bought it from new! Schlodoban's suggestion seams to be the way forward. Good luck with it :-)

I know you're frustrated and angry, but don't worry - a nut is a very very easy fix.

We don't know it was glued in the factory - personally I think it's far more likely it was damaged in a shop and the store repaired it before hanging it on the wall.

Just contact your closest Warwick Distributor, and order a Just -a- Nut 3... they're better than the Just -a- Nut 2 that you have in that they don't have the little side tabs that can be prone to breakage.

The JAN 3 is very cheap - it will only cost you a couple of dollars.

You can easily replace it yourself... all you need to do is gove the broken nut a little tap on the side, and it will come off... then glue the new one right on with only a drop or two of cyanoacrylate adhesive (super glue). If the old nut left a rough patch from the old glue, you can level that with a little sandpaper before gluing the new one on.

If you're not comfortable doing this repair, just take it to your local guitar tech - it is a very minor repair and shouldn't cost much at all.

If you were in Melbourne, I'd drop by and do it for you for nothing. It only takes about ten minutes.

Ok, maybe you'll hate me after this, but your nut is just fine, you don't need to change it at all, haha! That little plastic support does not support anything. The string tension is supporting the nut. Also the screws left marks in the base plate, so the nut cannot move from side to side.

Just don't worry, and play the bass :-)
 
Florin is 100% correct.

Personally, I'd replace it - not that you have to - as Florin says, it won't move... just that I couldn't stand having something on my bass broken. It's just my quirky personality - it would do my head in!

So - you have two choices... just leave it and play your bass - it'll be fine. Or replace it with a JAN 3.

Either way is easy.

Florin you're right. As the strings are under tension, the nut won't move, but as Eberbachi noted all so.........I too can't have the thought of having something broken on my bass!! It's gonna do my head in!! Haha

I'm glad to hear that it's an easy qucik fix, so I'll take it in to get fixed.
